Barrow Bridge Chimney

Aviary Tower, Moss Bank Park
Photographed from the children's play area. The tower in the aviary was originally built as an astronomical observatory by John Horrocks Ainsworth (d. 1864).

Barrow bridge chimney
The chimney, now a listed building was originally used by a local bleach works.
Work was done on the chimney by the late Fred Dibnah, who laddered and erected scaffolding at the top, his name plaque can be seen at the bottom of the chimney.

Relief Carvings, Smithills Hall Withdrawing Room
The withdrawing room is panelled with relief carving made by Flemish craftsmen. The carved portraits depict generations of the Barton family and the emblems of stags’ heads and acorns below them are taken from the family’s coat of arms.
