Lanchester Valley Railway Path
For most of its route, Lanchester Valley Path (part of National Cycle Network route 14) follows the line of the old railway from Durham to Lydgetts Junction, here seen just west of Lanchester village.

Old byer at Branch Villa
This farm stands on Newbiggin Lane, west of Lanchester village. This building was once a byer for animals with a hay loft over, a typical C19 building. There is an interesting windsock in the shape of a fox on the left hand side of the roof.

Field(s) west of Branch Villa
The view is from Newbiggin Lane, west from Lanchester towards Humber Hill and across two fields on the map but one on the ground. It appears that a field boundary in line with the obvious drinking trough has been removed.

|
A field full of veg beds, south of Newbiggin Lane
This doesn't look like allotments, but nor is it a typical smallholding. Perhaps a new community garden? There were no noticeboards or nameplates.
