About this ebook

This book contains individual devotions on the Word of God's immeasurable value and the way Jesus Christ has plotted for each one of us who believes He is our risen Lord and Savior, the only begotten Son of God. Jesus is the Word made flesh who created the New Testament in His shed blood and sacrifice.

The Old and the New Testaments offer us insight to the love and will of God for each one of us personally when we accept Jesus as our personal Savior. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. He tutors us as we study the Word in print to reveal the Word in Jesus Christ who presents us washed clean in His blood to become His brothers and sisters. We become God's own children. It is my prayer that the words within these devotions are His, not mine. Thanks be to God.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. ²⁶ And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this? (John 11:25–26)

¹⁷ So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, ⁹ not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8–9)

⁶ Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6)

    Around the Campfire

Many of us have experienced camping out in the woods where the day is full of sun, fun, and adventures. But as evening skies darken, we retreat to gather around the campfire built to provide us light, warmth, and perhaps nourishment cooked over the open fire. Now, the world around us is now less inviting, even threatening. Who wants to venture alone into the darkness beyond the light? Not me!

God's universe offers light from countless suns which shine against the infinite darkness, many of them have planets which gather around their light and warmth. Earth is blessed to be one of those planets which orbits at just the right distance from our campfire to be warmed and sustained by its light.

Yet scientists warn us that our sun won't last forever. They tell us of a time in the distant future when our sun will explode, turning our green earth into a cold cinder. But the light of Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, will never dim. He is with us always (Matthew 28:20).

Let His light and love warm you and keep you in this New Year for it will never die, nor will we who believe in Him and repent of our sins (John 11:26).

When we depart from this flesh, He will bring us home to Him and all who have gone before in Him, where time nor tears have any place. Where we will never again be separated from one another.

Happy new year in Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Savior! You make every year happy too, as we share our love in Him forever.

    Lamb of God

The Old Testament prescribes the blood sacrifices that God and how those sacrifices were to be made. Just as sin is endless, the sacrifices were also without end.

It was the blood of a sacrificial lamb that was spread on the doorposts of the Jews as Moses was delivering God's commandment to release His people to the Pharaoh of Egypt that had enslaved them. Moses warned the pharaoh that God's spirit would pass through Egypt and slay the firstborn of every man or beast if the pharaoh did not relent. The Jews painted their doorposts with the blood of a lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old (Exodus 12:5). The homes with the blood of the sacrificial lambs applied as instructed were passed over in the night. Their firstborn were left unharmed.

Blood was the Old Testament's cure for the curse of sin. Sin and the blood necessary to seek forgiveness of sins committed were endless. The term transactional relationship coined by psychiatrists and sociologists is used today.

That was true until John the Baptist announced the holy nature of Jesus Christ's ministry to all mankind. ²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29). I don't believe those who heard these words of blessing could have comprehended their full meaning, as John did.

Many of us still struggle to understand and accept the true nature of Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Savior. The Passover was a shadow cast by the holy light of Jesus Christ whose birth into our flesh was still thousands of years away. His light is present from the beginning of God's creation and shines throughout time without end. While the Passover lamb's shed blood protected a few in a single circumstance, the blood of Jesus Christ protects everyone who believes in Him forever.

¹⁵ That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:15–17)

Jesus took every sin upon Himself on the cross, from Eden until Christ returns to make His kingdom on earth in His final judgment. We who believe and repent in Him before he returns will live in His kingdom together forever. Those who do not, will not.

The warmth and peace of our Christmas just past is also just a shadow the light of Christ shining upon his here and now. At His second coming, we shall be bathed in His light forever.

Every day is Christmas. Each day, we may open His gift of grace again to feel His love. Let us thank Jesus together daily.

    Every Promise Kept

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. (Genesis 3:15)

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)

³⁰ The angel said to her, Don't be afraid, Mary; God has shown you his grace. ³¹ Listen! You will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. ³² He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of King David, his ancestor. ³³ He will rule over the people of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will never end. ³⁴ Mary said to the angel, How will this happen since I am a virgin? (Luke 1:30–34)

⁴⁷ Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in Me has everlasting life. (John 6:47)

⁶ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

¹⁸ Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ¹⁹ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Matthew 28:18–20)

Jesus is a gift from God. May we celebrate Christmas every day, forever and ever. Amen!

    Seek Not Glory

I remember Sunday school was full of wonderful stories and colorful pictures of Jesus Christ performing miracles. Sunday after Sunday, we were treated to episodes of the Superhero above all superheroes.

Superman was cool and exciting as he battled supervillains.
