If you’re here, you probably know what it feels like to be caught in life’s relentless waves, trying to keep your head above water as frustrations tug at your resolve. You may know the feeling of pouring everything you have into something—a relationship, a dream, a season of waiting—and then watching it unravel. You know what it’s like to ask, Does this even matter? or to cry out, Why, God? while staring down a road that seems endless and unyielding. In these moments, hope can feel distant, like a faint whisper amid a roaring storm, and yet somewhere deep inside, you long to believe there is purpose in the struggle—that this frustration, this season, isn’t without meaning.

This book was born from the reality of these moments. It’s about uncovering the glimmers of hope when the days feel dark and about learning to see the sacredness within the struggle. This journey is for those who have ever felt discouraged, tired, or ready to give up. Together, we’ll look at what it means to keep going when life feels heavy, to reach for hope when you’re on the verge of letting go, and to find purpose in the very experiences that have left you questioning it all.

Through Scripture and honest reflection, Why It Matters will guide you through the beauty of holding on to hope, even when circumstances feel unbearable. You’ll see how others have navigated the long, uncertain stretches of frustration and how their faith carried them through. We’ll explore the resilience that God builds within us when we face adversity, and how each trial refines us, deepens our faith, and prepares us for what’s to come. You’ll discover that our struggles aren’t wasted—that they are shaping us, drawing us closer to God, and revealing His grace in ways we may have overlooked.

As we walk through these pages, we’ll look deeply at how God uses our frustrations to transform us. We’ll see that He doesn’t waste our pain; He uses every tear, every prayer, every moment of waiting to write a story of redemption and growth. Each step we take, even when it feels small or insignificant, is part of a greater journey. God is with us, even when we feel we’re standing still, and He is weaving together each moment to create something beautiful in His perfect timing.

So, if you’re ready to discover the hope that lies within your deepest struggles, if you’re willing to lean into the possibility that God is at work even in your frustration, then let’s begin. This isn’t just a book; it’s an invitation to journey through the places where faith is tested and to discover why it all matters. There is hope on the other side of frustration. Let’s find it together.

Day 1 - Perseverance in the Face of Setbacks

In life, we all face moments of frustration and discouragement, times when it feels like every effort leads to nothing but setbacks and obstacles, making us wonder why we should even keep trying. But when we look to the Bible, we find a message of hope and encouragement that reminds us why perseverance in the face of setbacks truly matters. The Bible tells us over and over that trials and challenges have a purpose in our lives, that they aren’t just random difficulties, but moments where God is working something good in us, even if we can’t see it right away. In James 1:3-4, we are reminded, Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. This verse teaches us that when we face hard times, our faith is being tested and strengthened. Through this testing, God builds patience in us, helping us to grow and mature in ways that prepare us for His purpose. Every setback, every struggle, every moment of frustration is a part of God’s plan to make us stronger, wiser, and more able to trust in Him. It may be hard to understand why these things happen, but the Bible encourages us not to give up, not to lose hope, because God is with us, working all things together for good. Romans 8:28 promises, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. This means that even the most difficult situations have a place in God’s plan for our lives. He can use everything we face, even our frustrations, to bring about something good. This doesn’t mean that setbacks won’t hurt or that we won’t feel disappointed, but it does mean that these experiences are not wasted. God sees our struggles, and He promises to use them for our benefit and His glory. We see this truth in the life of Joseph in the Old Testament. Despite facing betrayal by his brothers, slavery, and imprisonment, Joseph continued to trust in God’s plan. He didn’t understand why he was facing so many setbacks, but he believed that God was with him. In Genesis 50:20, Joseph tells his brothers, But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Joseph’s story shows us that God can take even the most painful situations and turn them into something good. When we face setbacks, we can remember Joseph’s story and hold onto the hope that God has a purpose for our lives, even when we can’t see it. We are also encouraged by the words of Jesus, who told His disciples in John 16:33, These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. Jesus knew that we would face hard times, but He also promised us peace and victory. Because of His love and sacrifice, we can face any setback with the assurance that we are not alone, and that God is bigger than any problem we may encounter. The Bible also tells us that our perseverance has eternal value. In 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, we read, For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. This reminds us that while our struggles may seem overwhelming right now, they are temporary compared to the eternal glory that God has prepared for us. Our perseverance in these trials matters because it brings us closer to the everlasting joy and peace that we will experience with God in heaven. It may be hard to keep this perspective in the middle of frustration, but when we focus on God’s promises, we find the strength to keep going. Galatians 6:9 encourages us, And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. This verse reminds us that perseverance is key; it is the bridge between planting seeds of faith and seeing the harvest of God’s blessings. When we feel like giving up, this verse calls us to hold on, trusting that God will bring us through our struggles and reward our faithfulness. Our setbacks do not define us; rather, our response to them does. When we choose to persevere, we are choosing to believe that God is greater than any obstacle, and that His purpose for us will prevail. Hebrews 12:1-2 encourages us to run with patience, looking to Jesus as our example: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Jesus endured unimaginable suffering for our sake, yet He didn’t give up. His example reminds us that our perseverance matters because it is a way of following Him, of honoring His sacrifice, and of becoming more like Him. When we look to Jesus, we find the courage to keep going, even when the path is difficult. The Bible also shows us that God gives us the strength to endure. Isaiah 40:31 promises, But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. God doesn’t leave us to face our setbacks alone; He gives us the strength we need to persevere. When we feel weak, when frustration is overwhelming, we can turn to God, trusting that He will renew our strength and help us to keep going. We may not always understand why we are facing certain challenges, but we can trust that God is with us and that He will see us through. Perseverance matters because it is a testament to our faith, a declaration that we believe in God’s promises and His power to turn every setback into a stepping stone. Each time we choose to keep going, even in the face of disappointment, we are declaring that we trust God’s plan, that we believe He is working for our good, and that we know He has a purpose for our lives. Romans 5:3-5 reminds us of this hope: And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. This passage shows us that our trials produce patience, which in turn builds experience and hope. When we face setbacks with perseverance, we are not only growing stronger in our faith but also drawing closer to God, who fills our hearts with His love and gives us the hope to keep moving forward. So, why does it matter to persevere in the face of setbacks? It matters because each act of perseverance brings us closer to God, strengthens our faith, and prepares us for the blessings He has in store. It matters because through perseverance, we find hope, a hope that is rooted in God’s promises and His unfailing love. This hope keeps us going, even in the darkest times, reminding us that God is with us, that He is for us, and that He will never leave us. Perseverance is not just about getting through tough times; it is about becoming more like Christ, who endured the cross for the joy that was set before Him. It is about holding onto the truth that God is working all things together for our good, even when we can’t see it. And it is about trusting that every setback is a part of God’s plan, a stepping stone to the greater purpose He has for our lives.

Day 2 - Purpose Beyond the Pain

In life, pain is something we all experience, and it often leaves us questioning why we have to go through it, especially when it feels like it serves no purpose. It’s easy to feel lost in these moments, wondering if there’s any reason behind our suffering, any hope beyond the pain. But from a Biblical perspective, pain isn’t pointless; it has a purpose, and God often uses our hardest moments to shape us in ways we might not understand. When we look to the Bible, we see that pain and hardship are parts of the journey, and they serve to grow us, mold us, and bring us closer to God. One of the most comforting promises is in Romans 8:28, which says, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
