I dedicate this book to God, who chose me to be who I am. He created me the way I am, even though I tried to change who I was. I also dedicate this book to my daughter, A'Lexus, who inspired me and gave me the strength to write this book. To my mom, who gave me breath in my body, and my grandmother, who gave me wisdom.
To my spiritual father and mother, Bishop Dwayne C. Debnam and Dr. Carla Debnam, thank you for always being there for me and helping me to become the woman of God I am and for strengthening my foundation in Christ.

Introduction
At forty years old, Lisa found herself reflecting on her teenage years spent without a mother and father. She had been forced to live with her grandmother and aunt, a separation that pained her deeply, especially since it meant being apart from her two-year-old brother. His father didn't want her, simply because she wasn't his child and because she was a girl. She pondered what being a girl had to do with being loved and wanted.
By the time Lisa reached forty-seven, she was alone again. She had endured a marriage that was mentally, physically, and spiritually abusive.
