About this ebook

Owned by the Fire recounts one woman's personal journey. Pamela Benner shares her experience with heartfelt sincerity and truth. Her hope is that readers will understand the analogy found in several biblical passages, illustrating how God works in the lives of his people to purify them and bring forth their true character. Understanding the refiners fire, we can better appreciate the transformative work God does within us and the beauty that emerges. The refiners fire is not meant to punish or destroy us, rather to purify and strengthen us. This powerful biblical metaphor reminds us of the transformative work God does within us. As we face the challenges and trials of life, we can find solace and knowing that God is with us, working to purify and strengthen our faith. When we embrace the refiners fire and trust in God's purpose for our trials, we can experience true, spiritual growth and become more effective instruments in his kingdom. When we allow God to shape and mold us through the refining process, we will emerge as pure gold, shining brightly.

    Jeremiah's Call and First Vision

    The Start of Your Journey

At the beginning of our walk with God, we are given a divine calling. We will be judged based upon what God has called us to do and not based upon fulfilling someone else's calling. God has divinely placed us into the body of Christ for His purposes, not where we think we would like to be. God will show us our calling.

God will do the following when He has called us for His purpose and plan:

God will give us a message.

    God will set us apart.

God will appoint us to fulfill a mission.

God will touch us and equip us for His work.

God will protect us and keep us safe.

Just like Jeremiah, we are promised persecution; but we can cling to the promise of the Lord's protecting presence.

As we choose to walk through our situation with God at our side, we can be assured that we can endure the inevitable pain and problems.

The Lord gave me a message. He said, I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world. O Sovereign Lord,

I said, I can't speak for you! I'm too young!

Don't say that, the Lord replied, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don't be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and take care of you. I, the Lord, have spoken!

Then the Lord touched my mouth and said, See, I have put my words in your mouth! Today I appoint you to stand up against nations and kingdoms. You are to build others up and plant them. Then the Lord said to me, Look, Jeremiah! What do you see?

And I replied, I see a branch from an almond tree. And the Lord said, That's right, and it means that I am watching, and I will surely carry out my threats of punishment. Then the Lord spoke to me again and asked, What do you see now?

And I replied, I see a pot of boiling water, tipping from the north.

Yes, the Lord said, "for terror from the north will boil out on the people of this land. Listen! I am calling the armies of the kingdoms of the north to come to Jerusalem. They will set their thrones at the gates of the city. They will attack its walls and all the other towns of Judah. I will pronounce judgment on my people for all their evil and for deserting me and worshipping other gods. Yes, they worship idols that they themselves have made!

Get up and get dressed. Go out, and tell them whatever I tell you to say. Do not be afraid of them, or I will make you look foolish in front of them. For see, today I have made you immune to their attacks. You are strong like a fortified city that cannot be captured, like an iron pillar or a bronze wall. None of the kings, officials, priests, or people of Judah will be able to stand against you. They will try, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the Lord, have spoken! (Jeremiah 1:4–19 NLT)

Like Jeremiah, we must decide in our hearts to continue to do God's will, even if many oppose us. Jeremiah was born with a purpose and a message in his heart. He was appointed as a spokesman to the world and, like you and me, Jeremiah thought he was underqualified for the job.

Much like Jeremiah, we don't have a clue how we will accomplish the purpose we were born to fulfill. Think about it: God knew us before He formed us in the womb of our mothers. We were created by God Almighty, set apart and given an assignment that can only be accomplished by us and no one else. Yet it seems that you and I have excuses, just as Jeremiah did. His excuse was that he was too young and couldn't speak for God. Yet God didn't take Jeremiah's lame excuses as an answer, but said: You must go wherever I send you, speak whatever I tell you, and not be afraid of the people.

The attitude of insignificance is much of our problem in accomplishing God's plan and purpose for our life. We are afraid of the backlash of people's opinions and attitudes. God spoke a promise to Jeremiah and made good on that promise.

As Jeremiah went about Judah speaking God's words, He fulfilled His part by being with Jeremiah and caring for him. God even went to the next step with Jeremiah and touched his lips so that he could speak the oracles of God out of his mouth. Jeremiah's position was to build up and plant seeds in the hearts of others that would take root in the kings and priests. God had commissioned him to do many things, all of which pointed toward God and His impending judgment.

Once again, God is a God of spoken words, and just as He spoke through Jeremiah to the people of Jerusalem, He wants to speak to our hearts and bring
