    What does liberty mean to you and me? I’ve often found myself thinking about this question, particularly over the past few years, and here’s what I’ve come up with.

    Liberty means possessing the freedom to live outside what the elitists in government tell us about what this world should be. Liberty means we are free to meet God and to be what He means for us to be.

    To live in liberty is to connect with our spiritual roots and make them physical, thus allowing us to live a life not dictated by fads, trends, or worldly pursuits; to walk in the profound and eternal truth that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by a Creator who loves us.

    We are individuals. We are more than the collective. We are more than an abstract global community. We are independent!

    We have been equipped by the sovereign, powerful, and almighty God to care for ourselves, our families, and our local communities. We don’t need planners or owners or an overbearing and out-of-control government to take care of us. All we need is our faith in God and a commitment to this ultimate truth: that we have been endowed by Him with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

    Living in liberty means we can cherish and respect those who disagree with us and pursue a lifestyle different from ours. And we can tolerate those who hate us for our Christian beliefs, our conservative values, and our uncompromising commitment to the Constitution. Though we disagree, we afford these people the same liberty that God afforded all mankind: the choice to accept Him and His grace or to reject Him.

    Living in liberty means we willingly accept the consequences of our choices and actions, and we take responsibility for our failures and our successes. We understand that living in liberty comes with many dangers and risks, but they are less dangerous than the risk of sacrificing our self-sufficiency and our families to the whims of an entitled collective.

    As Thomas Jefferson once said, I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

    Liberty is the ultimate peacemaker because it allows each person, each family, and each town or village to pursue their own happiness.

    Over my many years as a dedicated Christian, business owner, and community organizer, I’ve developed a passion for liberty and genuine discourse, and that has led me to other like-minded, liberty lovers who understand the times we are living in. David Leach is one of those people.

    As a co-warrior and friend, I have come to appreciate David’s ability to expose the enemies of liberty regardless of party labels and biased agendas. His Christian faith, his conservative values, and his commitment to the Constitution serve as a reminder that we need to have the courage and conviction to stand up for what is right, even when it’s unpopular to do so.

    SEEING WITH CLARITY

    Nothing is more crucial to the human experience than liberty. And yet it is perhaps the one thing about which we are least clear.

    America’s journey has been a road filled with the unexpected. The Founding Fathers may have set out to create a nation where We the People could secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, but the reality is that the road has been filled with potholes and detours.

    Where is the promise of our God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

    Where is the Bill of Rights when we need it most?

    What is to become of our great Republic?

    Just as wind and water gradually carved the Grand Canyon, the cumulative effect of decades of not really understanding the answers to these questions has led to a subtle, persistent erosion where we doubt the reason for our existence, the goodness of America, and the things that make us good.

    Over time, this has led us to forget that our rights come from God and that liberty is essential to our existence. And with no understanding of these fundamental truths, we have reached a point where we delegate power to the government it was never supposed to have.

    But knowing this means nothing if we’re unaware of what liberty looks like or what we need to do to find it and live in it again.

    According to the Farmers’ Almanac⁴ and the World Atlas⁵, the foggiest place in the world is the Grand Banks, a spot off the island of Newfoundland, Canada, where the chilly Labrador Current from the north meets up with the much warmer Gulf Stream from the south, creating 206 foggy days per year. Because fog reduces visibility, it’s difficult for people to see through it to know where they are and where they’re going.

    When it comes to liberty in America, doesn’t it seem we’re that way 365 days a year? Where did we miss the mark, and how did we miss it so badly? How did we end up where we are today? Where do we go from here?

    Today, in an almost desperate attempt to salvage what we can of the American Dream, we vote for politicians representing our side who promise to do the things necessary to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, as mentioned in the preamble of the Constitution.

    Still, we usually end up with more of the same ol’ same ol’. And even when those politicians appear to make a little progress, it almost always comes with an unintended consequence of some sort—usually a loss of a little bit of our freedom. Sure, Republicans and Democrats talk about how their agendas won’t interfere with our right to live in liberty, but we typically see very little evidence that this is true.

    How can a nation that claims to believe, as Benjamin Franklin once said, that Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God and nature continue to exist under such dysfunction? When stood side by side, liberty in America today is a far cry from the liberty our Founding Fathers fought and died for.

    Perhaps the reason for our current condition is that we’ve been trapped in the fog for so long that we have become disoriented and, in the process, disconnected from our heart—our heart of liberty.

    The consequences of this disorientation and disconnection are clear. Fundamental liberties such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press are routinely sacrificed on the altar of political agendas.

    MISINFORMATION OR FREE SPEECH

    Republicans and Democrats in Washington have taken to redefining free speech as misinformation or disinformation—which is political doublespeak used to describe people exercising their First Amendment free speech right to say things the government doesn’t approve of—and criminalizing it. We see this happening in several areas today.

    THE LGBT AGENDA AND RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

    The assault on religious liberty is multifaceted, but the LGBT agenda and the sexual tyranny it has created have become the most severe threat to this First Amendment right. No longer the stuff of whatever goes on behind closed doors is nobody’s business, the culture war against morality and the constitutionally protected Freedom of Religion that is being waged by LGBT extremists and their allies in Washington has been steadily working to destroy this God-given right.

    FAKE NEWS OR FREEDOM OF THE PRESS

    From Franklin Delano Roosevelt to Joe Biden, Republican and Democrat presidents alike have tried to silence the media in all its forms (print, radio, television, internet) for reporting unfavorably on their policies, when they break a promise, or get caught in a lie.

    Just like falling dominoes, the denial of our First Amendment rights has led to the fall of most of the Bill of Rights, such as:

    The right of the people to keep and bear arms (Second Amendment) The assault on the right to own firearms has been part of the Republican/Democrat agenda going back to Richard Nixon, who pushed for a national ban on handguns because guns are an abomination.⁶ Recent history is full of examples of the government’s attempt to void the Second Amendment.

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures (Fourth Amendment) This is another area where red flag laws violate the Constitution. Additionally, the growth of the government’s surveillance powers has created an environment where people are no longer safe from unreasonable searches and seizures.

    The right of the people not to be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law (Fifth Amendment) Red flag laws, government spying, and government mandates—all these and more deprive us of our right to due process.

    The right of the people to limit the power of the federal government through the states (Tenth Amendment) The Tenth Amendment clearly and plainly states, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the
