About this ebook
We will meet friends that you will love and enemies that you will hate, and we will laugh till we cry at some of the things that we will see and do. As I am being trained to race all over England and France, before long, you will know everything about me, ‘The Little Blue Hen’.
Richard Brindle
My name is Richard Dickie Brindle, an 80-year-old retired scaffolder. For over 40 years, I have raced pigeons alongside my sons Rick and Bill. Recently, I came down with a cold and my doctor advised me to give up caring for the pigeons for health reasons. While sitting at home with not much to do, I decided to write about the best pigeon we have ever owned. As I started writing, I realized the best way to tell her story would be from her perspective—to see through her eyes and feel what she felt in her own mind.

Intro
Last night, as I sat on my perch in my loft, I began thinking of what a wonderful and exciting life I have had.
And I thought it would be amazing if I could write it all down so everyone could enjoy it as much as I have.
My name is The Little Blue Hen,
and I am a racing pigeon. When I was old enough, I raced from distances of 100 miles up to 220 miles, which is on the south coast back to my loft in Blackburn, Lancs.
And as I got older and more experienced, I raced from France back to my loft, the distances being 350 miles and sometimes more than 600 miles.
My story starts somewhere in the Midlands of England at a pigeon breeding farm in 1999, the year of my birth.
Inside a large cabin on the farm, fastened to the walls, there were rows of boxes where each pair of pigeons could lay their eggs and rear their young birds.
These boxes were called Nest-Boxes, and inside each one was a round clay bowl with straw in it, and the hen bird could lay two eggs in it. Then she and the cock bird, to which she was paired, would sit on them alternately to keep them warm until they both hatched out, and then they would carry on feeding them and keeping them warm until the young birds could look after themselves.
A pot of food was put in the corner of the nest box and water was in a container on the floor.
The Nursery
The first thing I knew was darkness. In a confined space, I began striking the walls with my beak. After what seemed like ages, the confines suddenly collapsed, and I was out of my egg.
As I settled in the middle of the nest-bowl, I felt another little body next to me – my little brother, who had also just hatched. Then, I heard a lot of laughter. With my eyes still closed,
