      A few things before we start …

      Hi there. I'm the Owner & Operator of Mad Axe Media, a publisher of dark genre fiction and 90s nostalgia horror. I'm also the writer of the short piece you're about to read, as well as the author of the novel Nightmares From the Gray and the forthcoming novella Squirming All the Way Up (2025).

      Hello, freaks. This is Donny Roth, and you’re listening to the Freaky Local Legends podcast, where we break down the most gruesome, insane, and unexplainable things that have happened in the most unexpected places.

      Today’s episode is very near and dear to my heart as it details an event that occured right here in my backyard. Today we are talking about the Blood Moon Murders at Love Lake. Quite the oxymoron, indeed.

      The year is 1981. We’re at the tail end of summer in Echo Ridge, a quaint rural town located in the heart of North Carolina. A place with a large body of water on the outskirts of town, surrounded by lake houses only the old money families could afford.
