About this ebook

According to one account, over one thousand promises are given in the Bible.

There are promises to give rest, overcome anxiety, and conquer every fear.

There are promises to comfort, heal, and overcome sinful behavior.

There are promises of wisdom, strength, and grace.

All of these can be summed up in 2 Peter 1:3:

His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.

All means all!

These promises are accessible to all believers.

None are excluded!

Only one thing is necessary.

We must believe what God says; we must have faith that He will keep His Word.

Herein lies the problem: Far too often, our faith is weak.

This book reveals God's way of taking weak faith and turning it into strong faith.

It describes the steps that need to be taken to replace little faith with great faith.

As this way is applied to our lives, faith grows.

We then discover that

God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

    Preface

According to one account, there are over three thousand promises given in the Bible. There are 250 promises in the New Covenant. These promises cover everything from forgiveness and deliverance from sin to reigning in this life. They include protection by angels and being delivered from darkness to experience God's spiritual understanding and wisdom. There are promises to meet every need: to give rest, to overcome worry and anxiety, and to gain access to the very presence of God Himself. All of these can be summed up in 2 Peter 1:3.

His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.

    All means all!

As children, Sunday school taught us that

every promise in the book is mine.

Perhaps we all need to return to childlike faith, as Jesus advised,

    Assuredly, I say to you,

"Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God

as a little child will by no means enter it."

    —Mark 10:15

    The necessity of faith

Every promise of God is given to all born-again Christians. None are excluded. If you have repented and turned to Jesus as Savior and Lord, you qualify to receive all the promises that God's Word presents. In knowing this, the next step is to believe that a faithful God will fulfill His promises. This works in one of two ways: (1) We petition Him through prayer (Matthew 7:7–11), or (2) He presents His Word to us (Psalm 107:20, Romans 10:17). Either we begin this practical process or He does. In either case, we have His promise to hear and answer our prayer, or we hear His promise when others testify of Him (Romans 10:14–21).

Perhaps the best illustration of this is one that F. F. Bosworth presents in his book Christ the Healer. He suggests that this giving and receiving of God's promises is similar to playing checkers. After one player has made their move, he then waits for the other to take their turn. If we pray first, we then wait for God to answer. If we hear His word of promise first, then He waits for our response. Each player moves in their turn. So when God reveals a promise, it becomes our turn. Our move is to believe His Word. There are several biblical illustrations of this.

When Noah was warned by God of a future flood, his move was to believe that God knew what He was talking about. His move was to believe, and in an act of faith, Noah built a ship on dry land (Genesis 6:13–22). When Israel was promised that the walls of Jericho would fall when they blew their trumpets and shouted, they responded in obedience while the walls were still standing (Exodus 6:1–9). When threatened with war, Israel was told that God would fight and win the battle for them. Their act of faith was to put the choir, singing praises to God, first in battle (2 Chronicles 20:12–23). While Lazarus remained in the tomb, Jesus prayed, I thank You Father, that you have heard My prayer. Then He called Lazarus back to life (John 11:41–43).

God's way of giving good things is by making promises and then fulfilling those promises when we respond in actions of faith.

    Chapter 1

    God's Plan

For the eyes of the Lord ran to and fro throughout the whole earth,

to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

    —2 Chronicles 16:9

The Heavenly Father is looking for people who believe in Him. He is working to perfect their faith. The book of Hebrews explains this: Chapter 11:1 teaches that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is perceived as real things that are not revealed to or seen by human senses. In the natural, we do this without a second thought. We believe that flipping on the light switch will produce light, even though we cannot see the electricity working. We believe that the faucet will produce water when turned on, even though we don't see it yet. We might even say that in the natural, our faith has been perfected in these areas. We no longer doubt before turning on the light switch or the faucet. In like manner, God desires to perfect our faith so that we might receive all His promises.

    The perfecting of our
