      Introduction

      We live in a world which has been so competitive from the beginning.  We vie to achieve acceptance, affirmation, to be seen, to be loved.  We compete to get the most out of our lives, the highest-paying position, the best relationship, the best house; we want the best of everything. 

      Nothing is wrong with aspiring for the best that life has to offer.  I believe we were placed here to live our best life.  God wants us to be happy.  But you’ll never get the real meaning of happiness if you don’t what it is to be kind. 

      The problem happens when you want something so bad that you’ll go as far as hurting someone who you think is going to have it, and not you.  That’s jealousy, as in the story of Cain, who killed his own brother, Abel - Genesis 4.

      You see, our world happens to be a place where if you receive something then it means that someone else wasn’t allowed to have it, or by receiving it, the other person will no longer have it.  Sorry to say, a lot of persons use this reality as their excuse or reason to be covetous, jealous, unsatisfied, greedy, selfish, envious and cruel— These are all traits of being unkind, uncaring.  Look at the beautiful trees around us.  They shelter us from the rays of the sun, they’re so attractively adorned in white like they’re on a parade when there’s snow.  Look at the grass, it’s Earth’s lustrous green blanket, which never complains, whether the season is harsh or springtime.  The clear rivers, the green valleys, the blue hills, the scattered maple leaves, the assorted tulips on a Sunday afternoon—  Did God give us such a beautiful World as this for us to be unkind to each other?

      The material things we so often desire will never ever make us happy.  They’re there for our comfort, and gratification, which wears off over time (Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility).

      Let’s reason— Think of your dream car.  You imagine yourself pulling up at your local supermarket in it and all eyes will be on you.  You become the boss.  You’ll be trending.  You’ll be talked about, you’ll get new friends, but can that expensive dream car give you hug when you get home or make you ginger tea if your stomach hurts in the middle of the night? 

      Imagine this too, the factory workers, who assemble your dream car— Don’t you think that they are days when they wished they didn’t have to go to work to assemble no cars?  Yes, they’re apart of the team who manufactures the great automobiles we so desire.  And of course, they work diligently.  But that excitement wears over time and they get tired of seeing the same-ole, same-ole process at the manufacturing plant, because they’re humans and they do get burn-out over time.  But it’s their job and that’s how they provide for their families, and so they have to show up and make the great cars that we go crazy about.  Talk to one of those workers and you’ll know. 

      And money allows us to live comfortable.  It pays for the things and services we need and want.  It takes care of the food and bills.  Money is important.  But think carefully— If you have too little money, you’re going to worry about finding your next meal, how your kids are going to get through
