      There was always some kind of tension between me and James Douglas, Mom's new husband. He was a handsome man in his early forties. James spent at least three days a week in the gym he had built in his house. He had short brown hair and light green eyes and was soft-spoken. I was always so nervous around him, even though he was super nice. I couldn't understand why he put up with my mother. If you looked up bitch in the dictionary, her face would show up.

      But I was awestruck when we moved into his home last year. A barndominium is what they call it. It was a 5,000 square-foot barn/mansion, metal building. But it was beautiful inside with fancy marble countertops in the kitchen and three enormous bathrooms.

      Living with my mother, Janice had been rough the last few years as she went from boyfriend to boyfriend. But now she had finally caught the big fish. James Douglas was a real estate investor, and he had done well for himself. Now mom wouldn't have to worry about money ever again, or so she thought.

      Mom, I said as I knocked on her and Jame's bedroom door Saturday morning. Being too eager, I pushed the door open. I caught James pulling up his boxer briefs as he had just stepped out of the bathroom from the shower. Sorry! I blurted out as I ducked out of the bedroom. Oh, my god!
