#1 Everything in life isn’t always going to go according to plan. No matter how well-manicured your plans, they will still change. The Tao says it best: Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality.
#2 I was in Paris for my wife’s fiftieth birthday. I had a secret agenda: to spend magical time with my family while at the same time sleeping as much as possible to emerge rested and restored.
#3 My second-born daughter, Lindsay, called me out when she saw how miserable I was becoming as a workaholic lawyer. She told me I was ignoring a lot of signs that things weren’t working out. I told her I’d figure it out.
#4 I had a business training event in Los Angeles, and when I returned home, I was informed that my business partners from Asia were flying to meet with me. We had a disagreement about the direction of the company, and I was being replaced as CEO.

#1
Everything in life isn’t always going to go according to plan. No matter how well-manicured your plans, they will still change. The Tao says it best: Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality.
#2
I was in Paris for my wife’s fiftieth birthday. I had a secret agenda: to spend magical time with my family while at the same time sleeping as much as possible to emerge rested and restored.
#3
My second-born daughter, Lindsay, called me out when she saw how miserable I was becoming as a workaholic lawyer. She told me I was ignoring a lot of signs that things weren’t working out. I told her I’d figure it out.
#4
I had a business training event in Los Angeles, and when I returned home, I was informed that my business partners from Asia were flying to meet with me. We had a disagreement about the direction of the company, and I was being replaced as CEO.
#5
I was an angry, overworked, and unhappy attorney. Then I became an angry, overworked, and unhappy CEO. I was also supposed to be the pivot guy who could reinvent himself, but I couldn’t even do that. I was losing hope by the day.
#6
I listened to the audiobook of Pivot, by Adam Markel, and was shocked to hear my own voice reading the book. I knew that I needed to write another book that would help people deal with rapid, near-constant change.
#7
We’ve become used to uncertainty, but that comes with a price: stress. As the old saying goes,
