      I find Mondays difficult. It takes a lot of work to get ready for school. I have to make sure everything in my room is just the way I like it. Having everything in its right place makes me feel comfortable. It’s also the best way to know if anyone has been in my room while I’m away. You can’t be too careful when you live with a little monster.

      My mum says I can’t call her a little monster. I have to call her my little sister.

      What’s the difference? I asked, but Mum just rolled her eyes. So now I just say it in my head, or here, in this diary.

      I’m in third grade. It’s okay I guess. My school is pretty ordinary. It’s got classrooms, a library, two playgrounds, a vegetable garden and an oval. I like the playgrounds and the vegetable garden but I don’t go on the oval much. It’s full of kids rushing around yelling at each other, and kicking or throwing balls around very hard and fast. I don’t really do balls. I just can’t see the point.

      Today this became a big problem. On Mondays we have physical education with Mr Jumpy. Of course his name isn’t actually Mr. Jumpy, it’s Mr. James. But Mr Jumpy hardly ever walks. Instead, he skips and bounces and jumps all over the place. He always smiles a lot, and he talks a lot, and he really, REALLY, likes physical education. I know it might not be very nice to give someone nicknames but sometimes I can’t help it. I only say it inside my head.

      This morning Mr Jumpy was even more jumpy than usual. He led us out of the classroom (skipping, bouncing and jumping of course), and down to the oval. He stopped next to two big lumpy bags, and turned to us with a very excited look on his face.

      Football! he shouted.

      Sometimes I feel a bit sorry for Mr Jumpy. He does not seem very smart. But I try to be kind. It can’t be easy being a teacher. In my experience, most third graders can be pretty annoying. When
