Have you ever felt like you’re not enough, or like you just don’t seem to fit in? Does it feel like people seem to look at you on the outside and make quick judgments on who you are on the inside? There are a lot of times in my life when I feel like a square peg trying to fit into a small circle. Does my hair look great? Is my makeup on perfectly? Am I still skinny enough?
When I look around, it seems like everyone else is fitting in just fine. I watch them laugh and tell funny stories about their life. I sometimes sit there with a blank stare and want to say so much, but afraid of how it will come out of my mouth. I ponder the thought, Will they make their judgments on what I’m about to say? I long for them to understand that I see them only with the best of intentions.
Then I realize that I’m sure I’m not the only one to ever feel this way. Society can sometimes make us feel like we don’t measure up. We now live in a very social-media culture. It has filters that smooth away any imperfections we may have. Many people appear to have the best of the best and never any real-life problems or struggles of this world. It’s sometimes overwhelming to figure out what’s real or who is fake?
I am reminded of this scripture found in the book of Psalms: I will give thanks to You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well
(139:14–15). These words are a clear statement about the capabilities of the human body God has created. It means our bodies were created by a loving and wise creator.
Second, it gives an indication of our value from God’s perspective. He designed us. Much care is involved in the creation of each human being.
Third, this verse reveals the inestimable worth of all human life. A direct application of this verse is the protection of life at all levels—from the womb to the final breath of a person’s life. As 1 John 4:19 shares, We love because he first loved us.
Forth, no one else can take the credit for creating every person. No one else knows each person at the most intimate level. The same God that created the universe (Genesis 1:1) also knows the number of hairs on our head (Matthew 10:30, Luke 12:7).
Finally, in this verse we find another reason to worship the Lord almighty. He has created us in such wisdom, love, and power, and the only response is to honor and glorify him. There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great, and you are doing awesome things; you alone are God.
(Psalm 86:8–10, ISV).
Do you know in Christ you are enough?
Faithful Friends
Do you have any good friends? Someone whom you can have fun with and tell your deepest secrets to? I believe that faithful friends are gifts from heaven; whoever has found even just one has truly found a treasure. There are friends who pretty much just pretend, but there are friendships that go deeper and show more loyalty than that of a brother.
Scripture offers us guidance when it comes to
