When Silence is Misunderstood
Finding a Lifestyle of Abundance After Abuse
Prelude
Sometimes in life, we experience things intended to set us on a path of destruction or just straight failure. Other times, we have encounters that set us up for major success. But does anybody ever tell us how to plan or prepare for either?
Now I know many of you may look at my life and think, Boy, she has it all figured out and is well put together.
Well, allow me first to say looks are deceiving. I have been through, around, and under something that once had a hold on me, all while trying to figure it out with a smile. Based on the title of this book, I’m sure you can tell I am a woman who found my voice, but I have been silent and living in shame for many years.
Before we move on, ask yourself, Do I use my voice to save my life or to protect others?
If you answered to save your life, then write down and bring to life what you are saving yourself from. Be honest. Your abundance is waiting.
(PAUSE)
Now that you have released the names or situations keeping you silent, how do you feel? I know releasing the pain is hard. Sometimes, giving a voice to the trauma makes life hard, but you are not alone. Throughout this book, I share my journey, my victory, and my success on how I have been able to find a lifestyle of abundance after abuse. It is my hope you will achieve the same.
Never a Dull Moment
Have you ever had a moment when you questioned God by asking, Why am I going through all of this, God? What’s the purpose? Or maybe you wondered, God, why am I faking for these people who don’t even like me? The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you,
declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Still, something within us wants to know.
For example, I want to know why we get quiet when we face trauma. We know speaking out, seeking help, or finding peace will help us through the healing and/or recovering process. However, we choose silence. Now I know you’re probably saying to yourself, Crystal, we are not doing all of that. Plus, who do you turn to when the people tasked with protecting you are not a safe space? I totally understand because I lived in that space, as well, and I’m here to share with you my how
and why
I overcame and lived according to my purpose. Just know the journey isn’t easy, and it most certainly is not for the faint at heart.
The Night My Life Changed
Born in Washington DC in 1983, I was my parents’ surprise baby.
For eleven years, my parents tried to conceive, but nothing happened. Until one day, I came forth. Can you imagine? I’m sure they were living their best life, and here comes this little girl. However, I was the unexpected doll baby my mother always dreamed of having. From when I was born until the age of five,
