This book is derived from the 50 Rules of the Qur'an for the Soul and Life
by Dr. Umar bin Abdullah Al-Muqbil. A sister’s notes from Al-Salam Islamic center were also referred to summarize the above book. This book contains selected verses related to everyday life and verses that touch the soul.
This book is very important to have, in the midst of the busyness and increasingly glittering life today at a time when the world is increasingly filled with things which can sometimes weaken the heart and disturb the peace of the soul. By reading this book and following the Quranic rules you will be truly successful in this life and the Hereafter.
Chapter 01: GOOD SPEECH
…And speak good (words) to people…
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:83)
A human being is a social creature who cannot live alone. We interact with various types of people. There are those who are different in understanding to us.There are people who listen and understand us and there are those who don’t. We come across people with good manners and those with bad manners.
A person hears the good, and at the same time he also hears the bad. He sees things that can affect his life. So, this rule of speaking with goodness is present to regulate the relationship between fellow human beings.
This is a fundamental and universal rule of our Creator that governs all our communication with people. It enjoins that such communication be conducted with husna (goodness).
What does husna mean? Husna refers to speech that is beautiful in meaning and conveyed in a good manner.
Speaking with husna means:
• Speaking in a nice way so that our tone is soft, gentle and kind, never harsh or rude. This is outward beauty of speech.
• Speak with the right intention. This is speaking with beauty in meaning and an inward beauty of speech.
To start a good relationship with someone, we need to talk with 'husna' - a beautiful and good talk. This rule governs our connection with others with what we say. Either we listen or talk in relationships, but what starts it? Speaking. If we start by talking 'husna', then we will at least get a good response. When we speak good with others then it will make our relationships good with others
Sometimes a person can speak the truth and the speech can be good in meaning, but her tone may be sharp, or the person may speak gently, but the speech may be false, or her intention may be insincere. Such speech is not considered husna.
Allah commands the believers to talk with husna at all times and with everyone, especially with those closest to us.
Our parents, spouse, children and those who help us at home (who are our subordinates, such as servants) are most deserving of our good speech.
Parents should not be spoken to with harshness and neither should such harsh speech be directed towards your spouse or children. No one deserves to hear harshness from us.
This principle or rule is repeated many times in the Qur’an and teaches us the impact that good speech can have on our relationships with others.
And say unto My servants let them speak kind words…
(Al-Israa’: 53)
And do not argue with the People of the Book except in the best way…
(Al-Ankabut: 46)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, He who believes in Allah and on the last day must either speak good or be silent.
(Sahih Muslim 47)
To speak good to the people is a basic rule and is not something optional. May Allah help us to apply this rule. Ameen.
Chapter 02: THERE IS GOODNESS IN EVERY DECREE
And it may happen that you do not like a thing that is good for you and that you like a thing that is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2: 216)
This verse has one of the rules of the Qur'an that has a deep influence on life, especially for people who understand and pay close attention to its content, making it a guide and guidance. A rule that has a relationship with one of the main points of our great religion, namely faith in destiny.
In another verse, Allah said,
"If you do not like
