Clawfoot Tub and the Bearded Barbarian
A joke is never as good when it has to be explained
but try telling that to a bearded barbarian
with fierce eyes who thinks he’s a real cut up.
I better not tell him he’s a fake paper cut-out doll
and a wanna-be dinner winner.
The two of us were the last two
waiting to take the stage at an open mic
and as I was about to walk out and wow the crowd
he tapped me on the shoulder, a tad roughly too,
and asked if I minded if he went on before me.
I wasn’t sure how I felt, as a poet,
if I was to have to follow a comedian to the stage
but I also wasn’t sure how I felt about a lot of things
so I turned around and said to him,
