Keeping It Real

About this ebook
As you read the poetry in every section, know that I was just keeping it real!
You will see the social injustice and a celebration of our Black culture in the section. All lives matter, but Black lives are being targeted.
Next you will go into the land of relationships and family. See the hardships and the love we embrace with ones who are dear to us.
You will finally finish the collection on a high note by worship and praising our savior Jesus Christ.
It is only by his grace and mercy that I was blessed to put down on paper what he gave me to write.
I hope the poetry will find a place in your heart to always be true to yourself and keep it real!
A vessel used by the Holy Spirit,
Sheryl Ann Jones

First, I would like to dedicate this book to my mother and father who raised me to believe in God. My mom read to me every night, and my dad taught me to be true to myself. Rest in peace, John and Lola Hall.
Secondly, I want to dedicate this book to my family who are very dear to me. They have been with me through the sunshine and the rain. Love you, Charles, Cassandra, C. J., and Gregory Jones.
Finally, I want to dedicate this book to my little sister who gave me the title of this poetry collection to minister to others. Rest in peace, Connie Reese.
BLACK LIVES MATTER
A REFLECTION OF OUR CULTURE
A reflection of our own truth
We want to be known in history in our own true culture.
We stand on the shoulders of step and fetch it and
Blackface—
Roles that some of us found disgraceful.
But in that time and season, it had its place.
Hattie was the first Black woman who won an Academy
Award. Stop hating because she played a maid.
That was a platform to observe
Because of her humble beginnings.
She paved the way for film and TV
To open the door for Black actors and actresses—
To be heard and to be seen.
Generation after generation is it, we entertain and educate.
The days of dancing and singing on the plantation is no
Longer a debate.
We will keep on reflecting
