The Holy Spirit and Me

About this ebook
It was the hope that the idea of The Holy Spirit and Me would be highlighted in some of the verses that I picked in the people I chose to portray and myself.
Part One
The women whom I chose to relate to my great-grandmother Mwandiitaani Madzianike are Eve, Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, Rachel, Bilhah, Zilpah, Hannah, Peninnah, Elizabeth, Naomi, Ruth, Orpah, Samsons mother, Anna the Prophetess, Michal, and Tamar. They shared a few common things with her, one of which is the fact that they were either barren or associated directly with someone who was barren, and barrenness caused their husbands to have children with other women. Then they all later had children or remarried and had children. This led me to Deuteronomy 7:14 KJV, which states, Thou shalt be blessed above all people; there shall not be male or female barren among you or among your cattle.
Part Two
That led me to the Saurombe Clan, whose great-grandmother is Mwandiitaani Madzianike Saurombe. She was married to Saurombe the Third after she ran away from her first husband, only to discover later that she was pregnant. Saurombe married her, and she had fifteen children.
The Holy Spirit and Me
The Holy Spirit and Me is the rest of the book. I hope you will find it interesting and encouraging that God wants us to know that he cares for all our needs, and his word is true, always.
Florence Mutambanengwe
Florence Marilyn Mwandiitaani Mutambanengwe was born in Harare on the 1st of June 1942. She is the second child of nine children; six boys and three girls. She grew up on farm with her Grand-father a Methodist Reverend and Step-grand-mother until she was six and she went back to Harare to school. She did her primary education in Harare, went to boarding school for Grade 8, which they called Standard Six. Then she did her Secondary Education at Old Mutare Mission School. She went back to Harare where she trained as a Nurse for three and half years. She left Nursing and went to Ghana where she was trained as a Secretary. Later she went to Canada where she did an Instructors Diploma at the University of British Columbia. Professionally she worked as a Private Secretary for fifteen years; then worked as a Lecturer for nineteen years. Though she was born in a Methodist Christian family, married to an Anglican Christian family; she became a Born Again Christian in 1986. She became a Deacon in the Ambassador’s for Christ Ministries International Church and was later ordained as an Elder. In this respect she attended and organised several workshops and conferences and has been to many different countries. Her passion in all her books is for people to read the bible for themselves. And get the word directly from God and experience what God has in store for them. This is her fourth book, which goes to show that what the bible says: that with God anything is possible is true if you press on. Florence has looked after several orphans and widows; and gets satisfaction in seeing how well the orphans have turned out. Most of them are doing exceedingly well.

GOD THE FATHER GOD THE SON GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
GOD THE FATHER
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)
There is an important issue here about you creating things that is why it is the first thing that God did and wants us to focus on. Creating and not Barrenness.
GOD THE SON
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel," (Genesis 1:15)
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters, (Genesis 1:2)
THE SAUROMBE MOYO VAROZVI TOTEM
SAUROMBE – MY GREAT GRANDFATHER
It is said that five brothers came to Manicaland – Chimanimani from the Varozvi Kingdom. They were sons of one of the Varozvi Kings. Saurombe was the first son and was next in line to the kingdoms chieftainships. Most African cultures have Totems. When they greet each other, when they meet they use these Totems. Saurombe’s totem is ‘Moyo’ which means heart. The Moyo people are not supposed to eat the heart of any animal and anything that is closely related to the heart such as lungs and anything directly situated there. But what surprised me is that they do not mind eating under done meat where you see some blood. However, they are known to eat roasted clotted animal blood after they slaughter an animal.
When they greet each other they use the following words?
Moyo - the Heart (They can even call each other by their totems so you can call me Moyo, or Chirandu, Bvumavaranda, or Vachirera Nherera and I will answer.) It is automatically me or whoever is a Moyo around that place they will answer.
Chirandu – One of the most important characteristics in the totem – although I have discovered that due to various circumstances other relatives were grafted into the Moyo family through marriages. In those days the Moyo people would take their sons-in-law and make them servants because of failure to pay the required dowry for their wives. Their children would then be called Moyo Muzukuru which meant that they were grandchildren from the daughters of the Moyo people.
Bvumavaranda – This means that the Moyo people accept people who work for them such as Varanda which means Workers, and they looked after them well.
Mushaya chiraswa – This means that there is nothing they throw away especially relating to cows or the animals that they would have killed. They would use every part of the cow or animal. Horns were made into musical instruments, while hides into clothing or covers and bones into various artefacts, the tails into whips
Vachirera Nherera – People who look after Orphans
Nyama Tinodya – We eat meat of the Cows and other animals. Most Moyo people are hunters and farmers
Nyanga togadzira mumhanzi – The horns of the cows we use to make musical instruments, and many are musicians.
Muskwe tophumhisa nhunzi – The tail of the cow we use it to blow flies away
Ndove todzurisa dzimba – The cow dung we use to plaster our houses
Matewhe to fuga ne kugarira - The cow’s hide we use to cover ourselves and to sit on, blankets and clothes were made from hides. Many families still use hides for various purposes, we had hide covers in our family for a long time and one still hangs in Wedza.
Varozvi vakapera nenda – There is a story about the Varozvi people who were killed by lice when they were building a tall building to reach the heavens. It is believed that the Varozvi people were building a tower to reach the heavens, while they were doing it, the ones at the top had diarrhoea, which was flowing down the building and lice developed and ate them and a lot of them died because of it. It reminds me of people who were trying to build the Tower of Babel in the Bible
INTRODUCTION
Someone who causes change or promotes change by their presence in a situation or by their input into the situation is a catalyst. Remember God wants us to create things, I think that each person has been given the capacity to be a catalyst. The Lord told me to write five books in a dream and gave me the titles. The first one I Gave You My Son
. When I wrote this book I really did not know where to start or what to write. But when God wants you to do something he will guide you. I was told not to worry about where I would get the funds to publish the books and who would publish them as well as how they will be distributed. My main assignment was to write the books. Why? Because I had prayed to God and wanted to read the bible for myself and understand it. It is so interesting when you hear someone preaching as though God has asked them to clarify something to you that you did not quite understand. God said, As you write these books and as people read them, you will all be reading the bible in it, therefore make sure you put chunks of the bible in these books by finding relevant reference verses that relate to what you will be writing.
.
The second one is the fact that I myself am not a great reader of books. I have always wondered how people read the whole bible in one year. Some read it in six months and even some in less than that. Even at School I always read what I really wanted to read. I always said, Dear Lord what is the problem with me? Why can I not read and memorise verses like many other friends of mine and even other teachers and preachers?
The third reason was inheritance; what is to inherit: To get possession of as an heir; to possess things by having them transmitted from past generations; to obtain things second hand from anyone; to become the owner or heir of things from someone; to succeed someone and become an heir; and to be placed in a position of owning things from other people.
God said what would you like to leave as an inheritance to your children? I said: I would like to leave something that you gave me which is your word. Then he said write it down for them in five books. Then I said I also want them to know where I came from and what the life of my people was. Then God said one of your books will be called The Holy Spirit and Me
. I started writing that book immediately because I thought that it would be much easier, I thought to write about myself. Then I lost the USB that I was using to save the fifth book. Then I went back to the other books and wrote them first. Now I am back on track with The Holy Spirit and Me.
Reading about the many different cultures that come into one family is very intriguing. How many other tribes have since married into the Saurombe Clan? That is what God means when he says your children will be as many as the sand on the seashore or as the stars in the heavens. If one family is difficult to count what about the families of the many descendants of Abraham of which our family is also part and parcel through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The earth was formless, and void and darkness were over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. (Genesis 1:2) As stated in this verse you can feel that there was the Spirit of God moving over the surface of the waters. We need water to create anything and here the Holy Spirit was there and is there for us. Writing these books was like climbing a mountain, something that I would not even dream of. In my mind I pictured God with a formless earth. The word void means an empty space or area; and it can also mean a feeling or condition of loneliness or deprivation. That is how I felt in trying to write the books, yet God in His mercies allowed me to learn from this exercise of writing five books using the bible as my main reference book and the Holy Spirit as my guide. Have you ever been in such a position where you feel formless? I was there for several years. It is like walking in the desert. There is no road, there are no trees, there is no water, and it’s just you, the sand and the sky. There is emptiness all around and darkness surrounded me in those years. The problem is that this kind of emptiness is only around you. There are a lot of people around you. A lot of things around you, yet you feel like you are alone in the desert. Imagine what happens when you come across an oasis. The dictionary describes an oasis as a fertile piece of land in the desert, with a spring or well of water. Surely you will jump for joy. These five books are like an oasis to me. The problem with emptiness is that you will come to the oasis and you will see it, but you will not drink from it. That is emptiness. You are surrounded by everything that would make you happy and start creating but you do not see it. You will keep on searching and searching yet the Holy Spirit is just next to you all the time. You can even face discouragement from many sources, mainly because of yourself. If God tells you to do something do it. My problem is I sometimes wonder whether it is really God telling me to do this. Then it is me who starts asking other people! Ask God, He will answer just the way He told me to write the five books. Oh! How I love Jesus for sending the Holy Spirit to me. Thank you, Jesus. Then I look back at where I came from, this makes me more and more grateful and I begin to wonder: What were these people’s culture, customs, beliefs, and language? It is said that the Saurombe’s came from the north-west of Zimbabwe. It is not quite clear how far is north-west of where they settled. Some of them settled in Chimanimani, Zimunya, others settled in Buhera and others settled in Mutare, Harare, Wedza, Norton, Concession, Bulawayo and Masvingo,
They fought wars in those days and there is a spear in our family which was thrown by a Matebele warrior towards one of my great grandparents and he picked it up and ran away. Had it struck him he could have died because in those days they rubbed the spears with poison. I always think that the Holy Spirit was there watching over my great grandfather and he survived the ordeal.
In another incident, the Saurombe’s it is said crossed one of the biggest rivers in Zimbabwe, may be the Save River or the Zambezi river under water and they used reeds to breathe. (Tsanga) The bible is full of genealogies and my interest is mainly in knowing where I came from and relate it to what is written about other people and their families especially those in the bible. Just
