Think Palestine: To Unlock U.S.-Israelis & Arabs Conflicts
()
About this ebook
For that purpose, Dr. Effarah kept writing weekly articles in Arabic and English for the last twenty-six years with one objectiveThink Palestine. This third volume includes unpublished articles for the last three years (20122015); volume 1 includes the published articles from 2001 to 2006, while volume 2 includes articles from 2007 to 2012.
Dr. Effarah believes that the media discrepancies are far more pronounced. The moral crisis in mainstream Western media on the subject of Palestine requires volumes, and much has indeed been written about it. His writings are based on developing events that took place in the last seventy years of his own experience since he was uprooted from his home in Haifa, Palestine, in 1948, along with his community; such change in his life caused him to be involved in the politics of the Middle East.
Dr. Effarahs articles on Think Palestine have a propensity to find solutions to the Palestinian dilemma while waiting for a form of a peaceful settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
The struggle in Palestine requiresand in fact, demandsglobal solidarity, a critical mass of a support base that is enough to turn the tide against the violent Israeli occupation, incorporating governments and companies that currently support, sustain, and bankroll Israels daily crimes against Palestinians.
There were not enough Palestinian intellectuals around to speak for themselves and are capable of enunciating the Palestinian experience or that the struggle of Palestine is part of a larger battle against imperialism.
Today, theres a massive shift that the Internet and social media has brought abouta change in understanding the truth about Palestine being occupied by intruders coming from the four corners of earth to fulfill a fallacy of certain myth that a certain god promised the land of Palestine to the Jews. However, the frame of mind that neglected or avoided the Palestinian narrative has not been defeated completely in the Western world as long as the appreciation of the authenticity of the Palestinian narrative to the central discourse of the Palestine-Israel conflict at every available platformbe it political, academic, cultural, artistic, or in the mediais not comprehended.
Dr. Effarah attempts to create a voice for Arab Americans to stand up and be counted and act as an integral part of the American society and help Americans understand the Palestinians situation as part of the Arab culture and heritage.

About the Author
Preface
D r. Jamil Effarah has been writing since the fifties of last century when he worked as a journalist in Beirut and news reporter from the Sudan. His first book published in 1958 " The Political Problems of the Sudan – And reasons behinds the Coup D’état ", and an updated second edition in 2000.
He immigrated to the United States in 1971 and got a number of post graduate degrees. He obtained a B.A. degree from the American University of Beirut (AUB), a M.Ed. from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge (LSU), an M.S degree in computer science from University of Southern Louisiana in Lafayette (ULL), an MBA from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks (CLU) and a Ph.D. from University of Oregon in Eugene (U of O).
His doctorate dissertation: "The Impact of Electronic Data Processing on Business Education in the Secondary Schools of Oregon", classified at the foundation level of the Mathematics Genealogy Project at North Dakota State University (NDSU) and is being taught as part of the Mathematics Subject Classification: 97—Mathematics Education at the University of North Dakota in Fargo.
Dr. Borg and Dr. Gall quoted Dr. Effarah, and added another chapter on Evaluation Research
in the third edition of their book Educational Research, 1979. Dr. Effarah has originated a baseline to measure the unmet needs.
He has published over one thousand articles in Arabic and English in different newspapers and magazines in United States and in the Middle East; and published a number of books in English online through the www.AuthorHouse.com; and a number of books in English and Arabic are still waiting to be published.
Dr. Effarah has been a resident of Ventura County, California since 1978. He is an Arab American from Lebanon, born in Haifa, Palestine. He is married and begot two sons and six grandchildren.
For the last 25 years, he has been writing on the Middle East and mainly on Palestine using Think Palestine
, as a designation for his articles.
Dr. Effarah’s writings are written to face the mainstream media that has utterly failed to bring about any measurable change in its biased attitude towards Palestine and its long-suffering people and where the Palestinian narrative is marginalized and fundamentally misunderstood.
It is clearly obvious that in the United States the limits imposed on the Palestinian right to speak, of what the Palestinian could or should not say. Platforms for an impartial Palestinian discourse were extremely narrow to begin with, and when any was available, Palestinians hardly took center stage.
The media discrepancies are far more pronounced. The moral crisis in mainstream western media on the subject of Palestine requires volumes, and much has, indeed, been written about it.
The struggle in Palestine requires — in fact, demands — global solidarity, a critical mass of a support base that is enough to turn the tide against the violent Israeli occupation, incorporating governments and companies that currently support, sustain and bankroll Israel’s daily crimes against Palestinians.
There were not enough Palestinian intellectuals around to speak for themselves capable of enunciating the Palestinian experience; or that the struggle of Palestine is part of a larger battle against imperialism.
Today, the massive shift that the internet and social media has brought about a change about understanding the truth about Palestine being occupied by intruders coming from the four corners of earth to fulfill a fallacy of certain myth that a certain god promised the land of Palestine to the Jews. However, the frame of mind that neglected or avoided the Palestinian narrative has not been defeated completely in the western world, as long as the appreciation of the authenticity of the Palestinian narrative to the central discourse of the ‘Palestine-Israel conflict’ at every available platform is it political, academic, cultural, artistic or in the media is not comprehended.
Thanks to the efforts of thousands of people around the world, there has been a solid push to bring the Palestinian to the fore; alas, it is not enough, because the challenge is branched out and diversified.
There is a generational gap, where men of past generations think that the most clever way of reaching the hearts and minds of their countrymen is by obscuring the real Palestinian, whose language, historical references, priorities and expectations might be too alien to, say, an American audience. It is best, they believe, to have sympathetic voices, ‘from the other side’, to address Palestinian grievances.
Palestinian themselves, who came from a generation that never stood, or were given the chance to stand at a podium, remain unable to appreciate the value of a genuine Palestinian story, that reflects the language of the fellahin, the refugees and the resisting women and men throughout Palestine and the region. They seek to tell their stories through apologists, ‘soft-Zionists’ and half-hearted supporters because they are defeated psychologically, having been blinded themselves by elitist propaganda that has been churned out over generations. Ultimately this is dangerous as it dilutes the reality of the Palestinian struggle, and distorts authentic history.
Once and for all, there has to be a decisive recasting of roles regarding what solidarity actually means, and how Palestinians fit in as the protagonists of their own story. The first step is that the Palestinians should learn not to combine between solidarity and assuming the role of the Palestinian himself or herself.
Palestinian history, from a Palestinian point of view, remains an enigma in the minds of so many Palestinian supporters. That version of the Palestinian narrative, as told by people who lived, experienced and are capable of accurately and clearly depicting their own reality is overshadowed by alternative depictions of that same reality.
As Palestinian children of Jerusalem rebelled against the Israeli occupation resisting with knives, we ought to also confront past misconceptions and mistakes by speaking out and writing articles as I have done in my three volumes of Think Palestine
to catch up with 68 years of the illegal occupation of Palestine.
The Year 2013
Unpublished Articles
Introduction
M ost major events that took place in 2013 attracted my attention and urged me to continue my path of communicating my opinion and comments to record them on papers.
That is why I wrote about the possibility to bring solutions to the Palestinian-Israeli struggle; and about the Christian-Zionists
hypocrisy and events based on the expanding Zionism genocide activities in the Holy Land of Palestine.
I brought attention to the weakness of the Palestinian information centers who fail to present who are the Palestinians
and their legal and rightful cause in defense of their resistance for liberation from occupation; and against all forms of killing, slaughtering, as well as extermination, annihilation and ethnic cleansing that are practiced against the Palestinians by the Zionist Israeli government in occupied Palestine.
The desire of the Palestinians to live needs a new sincere and strong leadership, a leadership based not on personalities but on values and high principle of justice, equality and freedom.
The search for peace in occupied Palestine is my goal to achieve by presenting articles related to the subject, such as what took place in the 5th BRICS summit that convened in Durban, the price of Oslo Accords, and the new round of hopeless negotiations under the supervision of the Secretary of State John Kerry.
I also commemorated the memory of Helen Thomas, Fouzi el-Asmar and Nelson Mandela, whom I greatly respected, had passed away during the year 2013.
The peace process negotiations under the supervision of Secretary John Kerry and his speech on December 7 attracted my attention and decided to repeat a number of quotes chosen from his address.
Does the Year 2013 Bring Solutions to the Israeli –Palestinian conflict and the Region?
Y ear 2012 is over; will the New Year 2013 bring hopes to the people of the Middle East, mainly in the suffering of the Syrians and to the Israeli Palestinian conflict?
A gloomy atmosphere prevails in Syria and Palestine. In Palestine, there are numerous issues to resolve to bring an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel is an occupying state and the only state in the world that has no defined borders. Palestinians are concerned over Israeli illegal settlements or colonies in the West Bank of Palestine. Still the status of Jerusalem is not clear, Palestinians consider East Jerusalem as the Capital of the eventualState of Palestine, while the Israeli wants a unified Jerusalem as the Capital of their state.
The most important problem for the Palestinians is to find a solution for their right of return of Palestinian refugees living in the Palestinian Diaspora.
While the Israelis keep forcing the issue of their security, and whether the major Palestinian figures and institutions are in fact trying to fight the freedom fighters who insist on resting occupation and put obstacles before promoting tolerance and co-existence with Israel.
Israeli concerns are based on abundant documentary and empirical evidence of many Palestinian leaders having in fact promoted and supported the freedom fighters that they call terrorist groups
and activities.
Any nation under occupation has the right to produce freedom fighters; most Palestinians do support resistance to occupation. The question is whether Israel is willing to withdraw to its June 4th, 1967 borders and in fact allow the Palestinian community to emerge as a viable and sovereign political unit, a viable and contiguous state?
Israel identification of Palestinians with terrorists will construe a problematic approach to create peace in the region. Israel’s denial of Palestinian statehood is based on its Jewish existence. If Palestine were declared a state, then immediately, Israel, by its present occupation of the West Bank will be in breach of the United Nations Charter. Palestine, as a state, could legitimately call upon the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense under Article 51 of the Charter to remove Israel from the occupied territories.
Palestine, as a state, would be able to comply with international conventions and bring legal action against Israel on various matters. Palestine could accede to various international human rights instruments, such as the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It could even join the International Criminal Court and file cases against Israel for war crimes. It would be an extremely violent situation that is highly likely to lead to conflict in the Middle East
The situation in Syria is also complicated as a regional conflict. The Syrian war was an early stage of violence in the Syrian conflict, creating a platform for emergence of militant opposition movements and some defections from the Syrian Army, which gradually transformed the conflict from a civil uprising to a full-scale armed rebellion, with different ideologies after the dirty Syrian civil war invited jihadists and terrorist groups, such as Al-Qaeda, to interfere in the social life of the Syrian and force their Takfiri- Salafist belief supported by all extreme Islamists from all over the Muslim countries allowing for a foreign conspiracy with over a hundred thousand jihadists to fight the secular state of the Syrian regime who resists the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
Troubles in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and North Africa are still growing and expanding with no expected solution. Is it applying what the United States called creative anarchy that produced chaos, instability and fear? Will the Year 2013 bring any hope to allow justice, fairness and equality to prevail? Will the so-called humanitarian intervention produce peace in the Middle East?
Palestinian Cultural Centers Fail to Portray Their History Based on Scientific Facts
W ho are the Palestinians? The Palestinians are a singular people, speak a common language, have common customs, and lived a shared history. They inhabited Palestine for centuries, if not for millennia, and tilled and watered the land to which they had legal title.
Western nations restructured the Middle East, denied the Palestinians a country, and placed them in a British Mandate. Refusal to agree to surrendering any of their lands to the United Nations Partition Plan led to the catastrophe in 1948 (Al-Nakba), which left them stateless and subject to Israeli-Zionists occupation and oppression.
The Israeli-Zionists are a collection of people supposed to be Yiddish or Jews coming from different worldwide nations talking over 80 languages brought to Palestine to destruct and replace the Palestinians.
The Palestinians have been unable to successfully articulate their experiences or implement a powerful rebuttal to Israel’s forged narrations. The Zionists’ war of narratives has prevailed, because the Palestinians have failed to defend their cause by the perplexing manner by which Palestinian institutions and persons unknowingly validate portions of the Zionist narrative and its falsifications of history. The trouble is the Palestinian information centers who have published a dubious biblical history that ancient history and archaeology contest such presentation that the Zionist propagandists used to their advantage. Especially, when the dubious information give credit to a David and his son Solomon. The truth is that the conquest and lives of David and Solomon are myths. If a David and/or Solomon existed, they were minor chieftains and not leaders in Palestine.
If Hebrews, as stated in the Exodus, wandered 40 years in the desert, would not the 100,000 plus Hebrews have left some traces for future collaboration – pottery shards, implements, shreds of garments, or weapons?
The most definitive rebuttal to biblical history before the 9th century B.C. comes from recognized Tel Aviv University archaeologists Israel Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silberman, who documented their explorations in "The Bible Unearthed: Archaeology’s New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of Its Sacred Texts, Simon & Schuster, 2002. Their archaeological diggings demonstrated that
the Israelites were simply Canaanites who developed into a distinct culture. Recent surveys of long-term settlement patterns in the Israelite heartlands show no sign of violent invasion or even peaceful infiltration, but rather a sudden demographic transformation about 1200 BCE in which villages appear."
Another example: Archaeologist Kathleen Kenyon, in her book "Digging up Jericho: The Results of the Jericho Excavations, 1952-1956", Praeger, New York, estimated the city was destroyed before 1550 BC, 150 years prior to Joshua’s supposed arrival.
Although Hebrews had major presence in Jerusalem during the centuries of biblical Jerusalem, which included rule by several kingdoms and control by a Hebrew Hasmonean dynasties, their control and major presence were interrupted between the kingdom and dynasty in 143 BC, they became insignificant after 70 A.D. when the Roman destroyed Jerusalem.
It was followed by centuries of Christian and Crusader rule and more than one thousand years of Muslim rule. Why the current forced Zionist history books downplayed the Christian and Muslim tremendous constructions and creations in Jerusalem? Why the Christian and Muslim every things become nothing and a minor Hebrew something becomes everything? Is it because myth replaces reality and ethereal spirituality replaces physical presence?
Furthermore, the often cited Western Wall is nothing more than the supporting wall for the Jewish King Herod’s platform and is not directly related to the Hasmonean Second Temple. No remains of that Temple have been located.
The Western Wall, which erroneously entered the vernacular as the Wailing Wall by someone during the 19th century, is considered to be close to the holiest of the holies,
the most revered site in Judaism. According to historian Karen Armstrong, in her book "A History of Jerusalem: One City, Three Faiths, Harper Collins Publishers, London, 1997, Jews did not pray at this part of the Western Wall until the Mamluks in the 15th century allowed them to move their congregations from a dangerous Mount of Olives and pray daily at the Wall. At that time, she estimates that
there were now only about seventy Jewish families in Jerusalem; most were poor and many lived in ramshackle houses."(Page 320)
Therefore, the Western Wall lacks absolute proof of its being close to the holiest of the holies,
and therefore has religious significance by default – there is no other readily apparent religious construction from the ancient Hebrew’s Jerusalem. Or, is it significant because Israel wants control of part of the wall that surrounds the Temple Mount/Haram al Sharif, a site it hopes to control one day?
Then, why should anyone agree to the Zionist Israel’s demand for incorporating all of a Jerusalem that has no ancient Jewish religious institution standing? Should not the international community grasp and comprehend these facts? That is why I accuse the Palestinian Information Centers of failing to spread the right message and expose the real truth about Zionist and Israel.
Americans Beware the Christian-Zionists
Hypocrisy in Their Teachings:
Part One out of three parts
C hristian Zionism is a fabricated belief among some Christians
that the return of the Jews to the Holy Land, Palestine, and the establishment of the Israel
in 1948, is in accordance with the Hebrew Biblical prophecy. The term Christian Zionism was popularized in the mid-twentieth century, following the coining of the term Zionism
in 1890.
Some Christian Zionists believe that the ingathering
of Jews in Israel is a prerequisite for the Second Coming of Jesus, despite the fact that the Jews do not believe in Jesus First Coming. The idea that Christians should actively support a Jewish return to the Land of Israel, along with the parallel idea that the Jews ought to be encouraged to become Christian, as a means fulfilling a Biblical prophecy has been common in Protestant circles since the Reformation. Unfortunately many Protestant Christian Zionists believe that the people of Israel remain part of the myth that they are chosen people of God.
Though many Christian Zionists believe that conversion of the Jews to Christianity is a necessary adjunct of the Second Coming or the End of Days, conversion of the Jews is not part of the theology of prominent fanatic Christian Zionists called Pastor John Hagee.
Who is John Hagee? John Charles Hagee who was born on April 12, 1940, is an American founder and senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas; he is also the chief executive officer (CEO) of his non-profit
corporation, Global Evangelism Television (GETV).
Hagee is the President and CEO of John Hagee Ministries, which telecasts his national radio and television ministry carried in the United States on 10 TV networks including 62 high-power stations aired to more than 150 million households. He is shown on networks around the globe such as: The Inspiration Network (INSP), Trinity Broadcasting Network ((TBN), and Inspiration Now TV. John Hagee Ministries is in Canada on the Miracle Channel and CTS and can be seen in Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and in every nation of the world.
Most recently, Hagee is the founder and National Chairman of the Christian Zionist organization Christian United for Israel, (CUFI) incorporated on February 7, 2006.
The best description can be read in Alice Bach’s article: "Cowboy hats and kippas: Christian Zionists gather in Washington to cheer for Israel, pressure politicians" submitted on July 17, 2012 to the Electronic Intifada. Alice Bach attended the conference and heard the opening speech by its founder Pastor John Hagee who claims, in order to justify his support for Israel that
the bible is a Zionist text".
Pastor John Hagee claims in order to justify his support for Israel that "the bible is a Zionist text." The truth is Hagee does not read the Christian Bible; he has his Zionist text to declare and call for.
Alice Bach starts her article by saying: "On this morning, July 15, as hot as Hades, the DC Conference Center is cool and respectfully quiet. Banners inscribed with Bible verses hang from the two-story atrium …. Once you past through registration, about 30 seconds, you get your CUFI — Christian United for Israel — tote bag and your badge, which is hung around your neck by a super-cheerful greeter. You must wear the badge and carry your CUFI bag to move around the Conference Center. Never forget, the enemy is everywhere."
She continues saying: "The rabbis are surrounded with officials of CUFI. The rabbis and other Jewish leaders move with gravitas through the crowd. I know that Senator Joe Lieberman will speak. I know that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will appear several times live from Jerusalem on the huge flat screens to thank us for supporting Israel and of course to praise his dear friend Pastor John Hagee. I know that Representative Michele Bachmann will speak tomorrow night at the Night to Honor Israel banquet."
"…Just then the house lights are dimmed, and three huge screens click on. In a moment the room becomes silent. The man in a pale blue linen suit arises and moves to the podium. He is a dead ringer for Burl Ives, as Big Daddy Pollitt, in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Pastor John Hagee, our leader, Founder and CEO of Christian United for Israel."
The words quoted from Hagee speech are: "When Israel blew up the nuclear weapons defenses of Iran in ’81, or Iraq, every country was getting down on Israel. And it came to me. We Bible-believing Christians must stand with Israel." People jump to their feet and applaud. It is the first of about a dozen such leaping, shouting, and clapping ovations that interrupt his speech.
"Israel is under fire. It is not if war will come to the Middle East, it is when! Israel needs us to speak with one voice. We are Christians UNITED for Israel. (Thunders into mic) Israel lives: Israel now, tomorrow, and forever." People leap to their feet and chant Not one inch, not one inch.
That means in CUFI-speak Israel will not give back one inch of God’s covenanted land to the upstart Palestinians.
I do hope that true American Christians who believe in God’s love and justice understand who the Christian Zionists are and who is Pastor John Hagee?
Part two will deal with Hagee’s support to the illegal settlements built in occupied Palestine.
Americans Beware the Christian-Zionists
Hypocrisy in Their Teachings:
Part two: Hagee’s funding illegal settlements in occupied Palestine.
H aving introduced Pastor John Charles Hagee in part one, now I am introducing some of his Zionist teachings, his relationship and funding building illegal Israeli settlement in the Palestinian Occupied Territories.
According to the Israeli Alternative Information Center in Jerusalem documents: the right-wing organizations have become an important part of the Israeli government’s propaganda machine,
and how the ruling coalition formed in Israel has established a ministry for public diplomacy,
with the aim of stepping up cooperation between the state and nominally independent groups supporting Zionism. The ministry’s establishment follows a decade-long trend whereby the government has increasingly assigned tasks to certain organizations. One of the best examples of this cooperation involves the settler group Elad. Also known as the Ir David Foundation, Elad has been given formal responsibility for managing the Kingdom of David Park in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem. Elad’s efforts to prove that the remnants of an ancient Jewish kingdom can be found there have been used as a pretext for expelling Palestinians so that settlers can take over the area. These organizations have relied on support from extremists in the United States, such as Hagee’s Israel Advocacy Mission
of the Christian United for Israel (CUFI).
Hagee’s support and funding of illegal settlement/colonies built on the Palestinian occupied territories because there should be no Palestine. He argues that the land does not belong to the Palestinian people, and that the name Palestine
" (deriving from that of the ancient Philistines) was imposed by the Roman Emperor Hadrian to punish the Jews for their revolt against the Roman Empire. Hagee has commented that there is no Palestinian language and no historic Palestinian nation.
I am sure he gets his false knowledge form his Zionist bible, as he supports the ImTirtzu group headed by Israeli settlers which is known for accusing Israel’s critics of anti-Semitism. This is somewhat ironic as ImTirtzu’s main source of finance in recent years has been from Christians United for Israel (CUFI), for example, a worth of 375,000 shekels ($103,000), was the largest single donation to ImTirtzu in 2009 originated from CUFI.
It is also important to know that Hagee is not alone in funding the Zionists’ building illegal settlement in Palestine and those American-registered organizations have transferred about $274 million to Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza between 2002 and 2009. These donations enjoyed tax-exempt status. Right-wing groups in the United States are often able to register as charities by dedicating part of their budget to social projects
for settlers in the West Bank, despite the fact that such settlements are illegal under international law.
Furthermore, United States regulations are less strict than Israeli law which stipulates that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have to publish annual financial reports including the names of donors who gave more than 20,000 shekels ($5,528). Channeling donations through United States groups has become an easy way to circumvent the requirement to reveal the names of donors.
The report shows how NGO Monitor — a group dedicated to attacking critics of Israel — has strong connections to the Israeli political elite. NGO Monitor began as a project of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, a think tank
now headed by Dore Gold, who has served as Israel’s ambassador to the UN.
Despite its focus on where groups perceived their funding, NGO Monitor does not reveal the source of its donations and has asked the government for permission to keep the identities of its donors secret.
Some reports of the sources of its finance are nonetheless known. For example, they include the Jewish Agency — a body committed to the colonization of Palestine — and Shari Arison, a billionaire who owns Israel’s Bank Hapoalim. Most of the money used to set up the outfit came from Michael Cherney, a confidant of Israel’s former foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman.
NGO Monitor also receives significant funding from the US. In 2008 and 2009, NGO Monitor received 1,608,512 shekels ($444,586) and 1,319,676 shekels ($364,753) respectively in donations. One of its largest contributors was a group called American Friends of NGO Monitor.
Furthermore, the government of Israel has given official encouragement to Christian Zionism, allowing the establishment in 1980 of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem. The main function of the embassy is to enlist worldwide Christian support for Israel. The embassy has raised funds to help finance Jewish immigration to Israel from the former Soviet Union, and has assisted Zionist groups, and still assisting in establishing the illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank of Palestine.
The third part looks at the Christian Zionist proclamation of their belief and the opposing Eastern Christians belief.
Americans Beware the Christian-Zionists
Hypocrisy in Their Teachings:
Part three – The proclamation
T o cut it short, I start directly with the Third International Christian Zionist Congress, held in Jerusalem in February 1996, and issued a proclamation which said:
• God the Father, Almighty, chose the ancient nation and people of Israel, the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to reveal His plan of redemption for the world. They remain electing of God, and without the Jewish nation His redemptive purposes for the world will not be completed.
• Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah and has promised to return to Jerusalem, to Israel and to the world.
• It is reprehensible that generations of Jewish peoples have been killed and persecuted in the name of our Lord, and we challenge the Church to repent of any sins of commission or omission against them.
• The modern Ingathering of the Jewish People toEretz Israel and the rebirth of the nation of Israel are in fulfillment of biblical prophecies, as written in both Old and New Testaments.
• Christian believers are instructed by Scripture to acknowledge the Hebraic roots of their faith and to actively assist and participate in the plan of God for the Ingathering of the Jewish People and the Restoration of the nation of Israel in our day.
On the other hand the Eastern Christian Church bishops: Patriarch Michel Sabbah, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem (Catholic), Archbishop Swerios Malki Mourad, the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Bishop Riah Abu El-Assal, the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East and Bishop Munib Younan, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, have recently joined together in order to proclaim and to publish the Jerusalem Declaration on Christian Zionism on August 22, 2006.
In this Declaration, the Easter Bishops commit themselves to the following principles as an alternative way to the Christian Zionists teachings:
They affirm that all people are created in the image of God. In turn they are called to honor the dignity of every human being and to respect their inalienable rights. Israelis and Palestinians are capable of living together within peace, justice and security, and that Palestinians are one people, both Muslim and Christian, and reject all attempts to subvert and fragment their unity.
They call upon all people to reject the narrow world view of Christian Zionism and other ideologies that privilege one people at the expense of others; and are committed to non-violent resistance as the most effective means to end the illegal occupation in order to attain a just and lasting peace.
With urgency they warn that Christian Zionism and its alliances are justifying colonization, apartheid and empire-building. God demands that justice be done. No enduring peace, security or reconciliation is possible without the foundation of justice. The demands of justice will not disappear. The struggle for justice must be pursued diligently and persistently but without violence. Justice alone guarantees a peace that will lead to reconciliation with a life of security and prosperity for all the peoples of Palestine. By standing on the side of justice, they stand with God who reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation (as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:19).
According to the Jerusalem Declaration on Christian Zionism, the Christian Zionism "is a modern theological and political movement that embraces the most extreme ideological positions of Zionism, thereby becoming detrimental to a just peace within Palestine and Israel."
"The Christian Zionist program provides a worldview where the Gospel is identified with the ideology of empire, colonialism and militarism. In its extreme form, it laces an emphasis on apocalyptic events leading to the end of history rather than living Christ’s love and justice today."
They categorically reject Christian Zionist doctrines "as false teaching that corrupts the biblical message of love, justice and reconciliation."
Furthermore, they "reject the contemporary alliance of Christian Zionist leaders and organizations with elements in the governments of Israel and the
