L. J. Underdue
L. J. Underdue was born in New Jersey, attended Montclair High School for two years and then Tom’s River High School North until graduation, and then attended Bloomfield College for three years. Since completing a poem in first grade, L. J. Underdue found a fondness for poetry, also being a third-generation poet. Writing was also found to be a release and therapeutic—a way to express the inner thoughts and soul, letting us all affirm that we share the same human experiences and emotions.

That Thin Line
Here’s that thin line between love and hate
It’s that thing they talk about that leads to a heated debate
I see as much as we love, anger can run deep
Though I try to watch what I say and make it right before we sleep
You should forgive, that means put it to rest
And not bring it up again, not even in joking or in jest
And how can you say you love me when you call me out of my name
No, it is not only one person in this love-hate game
You make fun of my weaknesses, you call me what I symbolize
The life society’s against, you see nothing from my eyes
You poke at my mentality but I desire credit for
The good I’ve tried to do and be, I’ve become better because I opened the door
I opened the door to let you change me
I opened the door with my praying
You’ve opened the door to your heart too
Can you understand what I’m saying?
You have made me want to be better
You told me to get closer to God (as did my Mother)
But you need to take your own advice
And remember I belong to you and we love one another.
