    FOREWORD

It is with pleasure that I write the foreword to the book Where Angels Fear to Tread: The Skid Row Experiences written by Bridget O. Juwah.

I first met Bridget at the Nigeria Television Authority, Lagos, during a TV program at which I was being interviewed on the activities of the Nigeria Educational Research Development Council.

It turned out that Bridget also had an interview on the same day on her Health Foundation activities.

Obviously, it became necessary for her Foundation to seek collaboration from my Council on her activities.

This was the basis for my interaction with her on a number of health-related programs that her Foundation undertook between 1997 and 2002.

I am, therefore, not surprised that Bridget’s passion for helping the underprivileged in the area of substance abuse and reproductive health has led her to write this book, which deals with her experience in working for the improvement of this set of people.

The book reveals interesting, and perhaps surprising, information about the world of vagrant psychotics.

Parents, church leaders, teachers, and other leaders of thought in public and private sectors both nationally and internationally can be enriched by the content of this book to enable them to address the issues discussed.

It is on this basis that I, therefore, have no qualms whatsoever in recommending this book for all those who are concerned with the positive developments of our youths and even some unfortunate adults who are in this predicament.

Bridget is a former student union activist at the University of Ife—Nigeria, a social crusader, a scholar of distinction, and a servant of God with a typical anointing.

The book has therefore demonstrated her rare quality in handling the subject matter under reference. I congratulate her for this exposition and contribution.

I strongly recommend this book for individual and organizational libraries, so that valuable knowledge can be utilized for the improvement of society.

    ACKNOWLEDGMENT

To God be the glory for the production of this book and for seeing me through the assiduous task of taking the gospel to the lion’s den.

It is necessary to express my profound gratitude to people and institutions that assisted me in the course of this work.

Many thanks go to Evangelist Olagunju Olojede, my mentor and anchor, for giving me all the encouragement in the pursuit of this vision. Evangelist Olojede, you were clearly my spiritual support as I dared to build the first church ever in Kalakuta Republic (one of the most dreaded ghettoes the world will ever know) in the year 1990.

Many thanks to the board members of Health Foundation for providing financial and logistic support for this work.

Profuse thanks to Chief and Mrs. Gregory Nnodim of Newlife Medicals California, U.S.A for support to Health Foundation at very critical times.

Many thanks go to Professor Frank Giwa-Osagie, a remarkably outstanding intellectual and pioneer of no measure in the field of reproductive medicine. A renowned Obstetrician and the pinnacle of the science of in-vitro fertilization and gamete intra-fallopian transfer(GIFT), a process in which the fertilization of the unborn child embryonates outside it’s mother’s womb; extolled as well as a professional guru who has expanded the borders of the African Continent in yet undefinable latitudes and longitudes. Many thanks Prof. for being a wonderful resource to my media interviews, symposia and press conferences.

Prominent among our endorsement is one time Miss Nigeria—Ms. Julie Coker the Evergreen, whose interventions heralded gateways to mounting recognition and support for Health Foundation.

My appreciation to Attorney Oma Nkele and Barrister & Mrs. Eugene Ezeala for their charities and professionalism to Health Foundation.

Thanks to Legal Luminary of acclaim and former Presidential candidate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite for allowing us time from his busy schedule to be Special Guest at Kalakuta Republic on the day history was made during our inaugural crusade.

Thanks also to Barristers Bisola Andu and Ema Nsa for setting aside valuable time to minister along with me in the prostitute brothels and drug Joints of Kalakuta Republic.

Many thanks also go to Rev. Lawrence Amajoh—zonal Pastor of Foursquare Gospel Church Lagos, Nigeria and my colleague at Life Theological Seminary for holding up my hands in prayer at some very difficult moments of my life and for his historic mission to Kalakuta Republic on the day I organized the inaugural crusade on this most violent areas where even Angels would fear to tread.

I acknowledge the wise counsel and priceless support of Rev. Yomi Dodo Williams of Sanctum Church California, USA and Pastor & Mrs.Ade Oyeyemi of Blood of Jesus Prayer and Deliverance Ministries California, USA for charities to Health Foundation.

To Rev. Anthony Amgbakuro and Rev. Nelson Anachuna, my coursemates and zonal Pastors of Foursquare Gospel Church at Benin City and Awka (Nigeria) respectively. I praise your steadfastness and dedicated ministrations and upliftment at various crossroads.

Many thanks to Pastors David Osho and Tunde Ogunkoya, my colleagues at Life Theological Seminary, Lagos Nigeria for coming under a corporate anointing with me to minister to a people already rejected by society.

My appreciation also goes to Pastor Wale Adefarasin of Guiding Light Assembly, Lagos (Nigeria) for financial support and donation of a Peugeot 504 Saloon Car to facilitate mobilization, and to Pastor & Mrs. Otuonye of Firebrand Assembly, Lagos (Nigeria) for relentless prayers and support at various times.

Thanks to Pastor Kingsley Okundaye of Church of Christ Mission, California and Rev. Isaac Awolope of New Covenant Church, California (USA) for immense support and charities to Health Foundation.

Many Thanks to Rev. Bob Carter, Dean of Harvest Bible University (Los Angeles, USA) and Pastor Daniel Efik (Lagos, Nigeria) for supports and priceless counsels.

Thanks to the Government Hospitals and allied Institutions that identified with us and expanded national recognition, awareness and support. The ease and availability of consultation, remarkable triage and medical, in conjunction with detoxification, rehabilitation and counsel services provided by these hospitals and their affiliations at the early stages of this work was unparalled.

Thanks to Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) for collaborative support during my press conferences and national symposia, and also to the Fund for International Aids Research and Education (FIARE), Texas (USA) for conferring the status of Sister Organization on Health Foundation.

Immeasurable thanks to Hon. Justice Uche Omo, (now deceased), our most valued and respected Patron of many years.

My enormous gratitude to Engineer Tachia Jooji (former General Manager of Delta Steel Company Warri, Nigeria) for support to Health Foundation especially during difficult periods with our unique and vulnerable clientele.

Thanks to Mr. Yole Akinnawo my media Consultant, the Nigeria Media Practitioners for providing nationwide print and electronic media publicity for this work at various periods, and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC, London) for relaying a worldwide documentary and presentation on their website in 1998.

My gratitude also to Superscreen Television, Lagos (Nigeria) for allowing me quality air-time as an Independent Producer/Presenter of the popular TV program Talking Health.

I am fortuitously humbled to be
