Kaleidoscope - Pam M Collings
Déjà vu
At times
I’ve been here before,
Most times
Everything’s new.
Last time,
I took a step
And the familiar
Wrapped around me.
That time,
It made me
Feel warm and safe,
But it doesn’t always.
Meantime,
When nothing
Is familiar,
I wish I’d been here before.
Sometimes,
But not always,
I have been here before,
Or maybe I just think so.
Me, Myself, I
Thicker
And tougher
Than armour.
Crushing
And squeezing
To death.
Breathless
And frightened
To live.
Cowered
And timid
Each day.
Thinking
And feeling
It’s real.
Despairing,
Depressed in
This life.
Then ...
Stronger
And harder
The will.
Survival
And life
To fulfil.
Layers
And layers
Fall off.
Time
And effort
Must win.
To make me
What
I can be.
Nothing more,
Nothing less,
I’m agreed.
It’s for me now,
For me,
And my dreams.
Out of the Mists
Around the corner,
And up the hill,
An idea lies in wait
For someone to come near.
Footsteps tread a path,
A second time around
Knowing where they’ve been,
Skipping lightly by.
In the distance of the day,
The shadow waves and beckons.
It waits as one draws near.
It knows where it must go.
The heart warms to one,
Unknown, unlikely,
As the day fades.
A hand reaches out.
The road branches,
Leaving one to form three,
The feet reach the intersection.
They turn towards the light.
A helping hand,
A beacon bright,
A pull this way or that,
A thought of right,
A warmness,
A longing.
The mists part,
To move on,
To explore,
To experience,
To live
Where facts have no room.
Resolution
New Year’s Eve,
A time to change,
When fear creeps in,
When hope comes to visit.
The cries of the New Year
Ring out loud and healthy,
Pyrotechnic smoke
Odouring the air.
It is a time of beginnings,
A time of endings,
A time of grief
For what could have been.
A time of pleasure
For what may be.
The champagne glasses
Raise their half full,
Half empty crystalline forms
Bright within the contents.
Dull and lifeless elsewhere.
Resolutions uttered.
Fill hearts with wonder
As the bright lights rain
Down upon ecstatic heads.
For some the year ahead
Would bring relief
As they move into a good year.
For others the
