As Recovering Sisters and Brothers,
we seek:
"through prayer and meditation
to improve our conscious contact with God
as we understood Him,
praying only for
the knowledge of His will for us
and
the power to carry it out"
Our Eleventh Step
O GOD OF OUR UNDERSTANDING,
" TEACH
US
TO
PRAY."
A TIME-PROVEN WAY TO PRAY
The following method of non-sectarian prayer has proved effective as a way to more fully digest the meaning of truly spiritual works like our 12 Steps and 12 Traditions. It’s a way to make these Steps and Traditions more of an integral part of our lives and actions.
The following four steps can be performed silently if alone, or out loud at your Step Meeting. (What a perfect way to hold an Eleventh Step Meeting!)
The steps are described very briefly as follows:
Read (and) reread slowly a passage, no matter how short, until you come to words, phrases or sections that strike a chord in you: jot them down;
2. Reflect on those sections, words or phrases and consider what they are saying to where you are right now. Mull them over!
3. Respond to your Higher Power in prayer from your heart; just talk to Him about it.
4. Receive (Resolve) whatever spiritual gifts your H.P. may choose to give you. He may give you the desire to make a definite resolution to improve in that area.
Now, that’s enough of the theory.
Let’s get down to the practical steps and start:
A. First pick a suitable time and place, for example:
Early morning on the porch, or
Lunch break on the park bench, or
Late at night in your favorite easy chair.
B. Choose a Step, Tradition or other Program Reading:
As recovering addicts, any one of these selections can strike a chord
