INTRODUCTION
Crete is a wonderfully photogenic island with lots of variety for keen photographers and the occasional photographer alike. In a large island like Crete there are so many different aspects that you are spoilt for choice. Whether you are a tourist on holiday and don’t venture too far from the beach or you want to hire a car and get out into the wild mountains or over to the opposite end of the island, it’s all out there waiting for you: landscapes, old villages, towns, ports, small fishing harbours, people, history, etc.
This eBook is a random collection of 30 photographs taken over a number of years.
With notes and other digressions I will offer you a flavour of what life is like in the Apokoronas area of Crete.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS
1 - Almyrida
Almyrida Beach 2.jpgIn the summer months Almyrida is a popular beach resort with its two clean gently-shelving sandy beaches, warm waters and good views of Souda Bay and the Akrotiri peninsula in front and of the White Mountains behind, which are usually snow-covered until June. The small village caters well for the tourists with many hotels, tavernas, mini-markets and gift shops. There’s plenty to do and see around Almyrida with a number of historical sites and other small Cretan villages to explore not too far away.
Almyrida becomes much quieter place during the winter months after the tourists have left to go back to their cooler northern climates. Nowadays the small harbour caters more for small holiday craft than for fishing by the locals, although there are some fish restaurants along the front. There are lots of quiet country walks to be had in and around the Apokoronas area all the year round.
2 - Stylos
Agios Ioannis Stylos b.jpgStylos is known for the cool freshwater that flows down from the White Mountains as streams or up through the ground as
