This book is dedicated to my boys, Owen and Liam. There truly is no greater joy in my life than you two.

Overall, this was one of the best trips of my life. Newfoundland has always been so special to me and to be able to share the experience with my boys was a dream. Being able to trace some of our ancestry together was incredible, and I am forever grateful that I was able to share this experience with you...

9:50am - I just sent my final email to Owen's hockey team before vacation. Bags are packed, and I'm waiting for the boys to arrive. The plan is for us to leave Peterborough at 11am...

Although the first paragraph was written at the time posted, I’m actually writing this part a few days into our trip. Everything else was journalled the day it happened but luckily, I made some notes about the 14th during the day. I was way too tired by the end of the day to write anything.

I had everything pretty much packed on Saturday. I also made a point of making sure I had the house cleaned, so I would come home to a clean place. The only thing left to do today was my sheets. It’s always great to crawl into fresh sheets, so that’s what I’ll come home to.

Wendy drove us to the airport and we decided that since we were taking my car, it made more sense for me to pick them up. I arrived at her place just before 11am and when I got there, the boys went absolutely nuts. They were running around like mad yelling We’re going to Newfoundland. We’re going to Newfoundland. I can’t remember a time when they were ever so happy to see me. It was a great way to start our holiday.

Because it was a domestic flight, we didn’t need to be at the airport as early as usual. The airline suggested arriving ninety minutes early, and it should have been roughly ninety minutes to drive to the airport. So, we had lots of time. Well, that is before taking Toronto traffic into consideration.

Highway 401 was very slow west of the Don Valley Parkway. We still managed to get there with time to spare, but the stress levels were definitely increasing. I parked the car, and we all went inside.

There were kiosks for self check-in, so we got checked in with no issues. Unfortunately however, there was no way to self check our booster seats. So, we had to wait in line anyway. So
