Welcome!
Hi, I’m Eliza.
I’m a writer and podcaster of The Misfits Guide to Writing Indie Romance. In case you can’t tell, I love to write and to talk about the craft. But this book isn’t just about writing, it’s about motivating you to write a novel in thirty days.
To start, one question writers should ask themselves before they sit down to write is this: Why? Why do you write? For me, I use words to do what I call TIE:
1 – Teach authors
2 – Inspire and push them toward their goals
3 – Entertain and offer an escape
I’ve entertained myself since I was a kid by making up stories and building worlds, even though I didn’t realize that’s what I was doing. When I was six years old, I had a Barbie dream house I turned into an inn in Vermont for my Barbie to run and made up stories about the guests. In high school, I wrote fictional stories based on my friends. None of those stories ever went anywhere and are long gone, but I’ve always had a story in my head. I can hardly listen to a song without creating a scene in my mind’s eye. It’s why I love fiction.
But with this book, I hope to teach and inspire anyone who has decided to write a novel and complete it in a month. Creating a story is rewarding, but not easy. It isn’t a way to get rich quick (there are many easier ways to do that legally) and it can be a lonely endeavor. We need all the help we can get.
The Who, What, and Why I Wrote This Book
The who
I’m writing this guide for is obviously writers, but what kind you ask? Well, let’s see:
Writers of all genres
New authors who are drafting their first book.
Authors who are starting to build a back list and want to write faster.
Seasoned veterans who feel they’ve hit a wall and need a swift kick in the pants to regain their passion for writing again.
The what
this book does is to:
Teach tips and tricks to help get you started.
Inspire with short pep talks to keep you typing those words each and every day in order to reach your goal in a month.
Stimulate with creative writing prompts to help break through any slow periods you find yourself in over the next thirty days. Or whenever your brain needs variety.
What this book won’t do:
Dig deep into structure (at
