About this ebook

Most boys love pocket knives, and Billy was no exception. The only thing Billy loved more was birthdays and the beauty and charms that an Army Navy surplus store possessed for him. Today was his special day and he had just come of age to join the Boy Scouts. A Prepper Kids Fiction Book that adults can enjpy also.
Tomorrow he was going away to summer camp with his best friend and little did they know it but that is where their survival adventure and education would begin. Things get a bit crazy when what used to be their Den Mother, becomes their Scout Master, and while giving the boys a ride to camp the car suddenly breaks down in the woods with them and her Girl Scout niece.
The area they get stuck in is an old Boy Scout camp by the lake that had recently been destroyed by a tornado. No cell phones, no power, no water, no tents. The oddly matched four must survive until rescue comes. This a fun book that humorously entertains while making you think more about survival in the woods and life's lessons for yourself. The book also includes a few survival tips and tricks like how to build a minnow trap out of a pop bottle.

    Wake Up Call

    ––––––––

Billy Scoggins jumped up at 6 am on the morning of the 21st of June like his pajamas were on fire. It was his birthday! Today was his special day and he wasn’t about to miss a minute of it! His Grandpa had come by after work yesterday and had already given him a nice card and twenty whole dollars to do with whatever he wanted to.

Twenty dollars was big money to a boy just turning eleven. No it was a fortune, especially since he figured that would be the most accumulated birthday money from all his relatives he could dare wish for. He had a hard time sleeping last night because he kept thinking on how he was going to spend his special wealth. There was no question about where he was going to spend his birthday money though, Old Serge’s Army Navy Surplus Store. The store was the most wonderful place in the world for a young man like himself to spend time in and explore all its treasures.

"Ah he could even smell those incredibly delicious military surplus store smells of old canvas and grease and oil from here.  Billy thought dreamily as he changed into his khaki safari shorts with all the pockets on them and put on an old green faded t-shirt to wear for today.

Hey Dad! DaaaD! You up yet? Billy shouted down the hall on his way to the bathroom.

I am now Billy, what are you doing up so early? His father called back groggily.

Talk to you in a minute Dad, Billy answered closing the door to the bathroom.

Oh yea, that’s right, it’s your birthday today. Happy birthday son. His father called out while sitting up on his bed and smiling as Billy came in his bedroom.

Thanks Dad! Do you want me to help you with breakfast? Billy asked hoping to hurry his father up and get him downstairs quicker. Billy had plans today, big plans! The sooner he got started the better.

No son I don’t need any help today. I am going to personally make you your favorite breakfast this morning, blueberry pancakes and sage sausage patties. Does that sound good Billy? Billy’s Dad said as he put his feet down on the hardwood floor and looked around for his slippers.

Sounds wonderful Dad! Yumm! It has been awhile since we had any pancakes and sausage and I am sure ready for some! I will go turn your coffee water on. Here is your slippers dad. Billy replied handing them to him and then ran downstairs.

Billy knew if there was one thing that could get his old Dad moving faster this morning it was that first cup of coffee in the morning. Billy didn’t know how he could drink that stuff but if his Dad liked it and he could get him to the breakfast table any faster by turning the kettle on it was fine by him.

His dad had carefully taught him the skills needed to safely accomplish the task and if Billy was up first in the morning he would often start the pot for his thankful father.

Billy was beside himself with excitement wondering what his Dad might have gotten him for his birthday. He knew he was getting a pocket knife, but he didn’t know which kind. He had showed his dad an Official Boy scout knife that he wanted and would be more than satisfied with, but what he really wanted was an Official Swiss Army knife with all the bells and whistles that had the Scout logo on it.

Times were tough financially around the Scoggins house and Billy couldn’t help but see his father choke a little bit when he saw the price on that magnificent knife. He knew his chances of getting something so expensive were slim to none and it was probably pretty selfish of him to even bring it up, but there was always hope!

He sure would be the envy of his best friend Tim! Tim still carried his fully functional but embarrassingly uncool now blue Cub Scout knife even though he had only become a Boy Scout just 3 months earlier.

Billy had been working on becoming a scout for a long time and today Billy had just reached the age requirement to be one! Tim had been teasing him for three months about not being old enough to join and pretty soon it would be payback time, especially if he got himself an official Boy Scout knife. He wouldn’t tease Tim too bad though, times were even harder at his house and he knew Tim’s dad and mom were struggling with big bills and low pay the same as his father. Tim’s dad had told Billy he could get by with his Cub Scout knife for a little while longer and he would just have to wait awhile to get a new one. There just wasn’t any extra money to spare or to spend on anything else right now but necessities. Adults just didn’t understand how un-cool some kids thought it was to carry a Cub Scout knife when you were a Boy Scout so Billy felt a little sorry for him. Not so sorry though that he wasn’t going to enjoy every compliment he got from Tim on what he hoped would be his very cool new knife for a birthday present though.

Billy and Tim were the inseparable type of friend’s, the kind of friends that usually if you saw one of them somewhere then you saw the other. They lived about eight houses away from each other on opposite sides of the street and they got fussed at every once in a while by their parents for hollering
