    SECTION 1

    THE ANOINTING

The subject of the Anointing is a central message of the Bible that every believer who desires to excel in life and ministry should deeply study, understand, and receive. The anointing is what primarily differentiates the Christian faith from other religions. Every believer requires it for sustenance, performance, success, breakthrough, and fulfillment both in life and ministerial endeavors.

Without the anointing, a man remains ordinary, defeated, and frustrated. The anointing upon the Bible gives it credence as the word of God. With the anointing, a man ceases to be ordinary.

Before the visitation of God's anointing upon the life of Moses, he was a fugitive and an enslaved wanderer in the wilderness. However, with the hand of God upon him, he became God's spokesman, a terror to Pharaoh, and a god to the Israelites. Nothing gets accomplished without it.

The anointing is an absolute necessity for fruitful Christian living. A man operating under the pure and true anointing of the Holy Spirit knows no obstacle (Zechariah 4:6). Mountains are brought low, yokes get broken, and the Red Sea paves way with the stretching of the anointed rod (Isaiah I0:27; Zechariah 4: 6).

The young Samuel operated and spoke under the anointing, and none of his words fell to the ground. The anointing confirmed and established him as a prophet of the Lord to the entire Israel nation. The anointing upon David made him a lion, a bear, and a giant killer.

In the Bible, no man had any meaningful and lasting ministry without the endowment of God's power- the anointing. No price is too much to pay to get this spiritual staff of office. It is worth more than rubies.

The anointing opens doors that had long been shut and makes a man succeed where others are failing. An anointed man is a man of strength and wealth. The world at large is still waiting for the manifestation, revelation, exhibition or display of the true sons (not children) of God.

    DEFINING THE ANOINTING

The word 'anoint' was used in several places in the Bible. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word Meshach'' is translated to anoint, anointed, anointing", etc. It means to rub with oil, to paint or to consecrate. It has to do with the setting of certain ones in special offices or calls.

Anointing means 'to apply ointment' of oil to something to make better with greater freedom. Oil is used to make machinery work smoothly and freely. Oil is also used to make hard and dry areas of the body soft and supple and to bring relief from pain. Oil also releases bound and locked working parts of an object so that they can be free to move and do the job they were designed to do.

Keep in mind that in the Old Testament, the ordinary individual, or what we tend to call layman today, had no anointing in him/her or on him/her. The Holy Spirit did not live in the individuals the way that He does today. We have a better covenant. In the Old Testament era, the presence of God only abided in the Holies of Holy of the tabernacle into which only the High Priest could enter once in a year.

We find in Leviticus 8, where Moses went through the ceremony of anointing Aaron and his sons to the Priestly office. In Lev. 8:12, the Bible says. "And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron 's head and anointed him to sanctify him." Through this ceremony, God was separating or setting aside Aaron and his sons and giving them the power or ability to fulfill the office of a Priest. Thus, the anointing is God giving His ability by the power of the Holy Spirit to do the task that He gives you to do.

The prophet Zechariah spoke to Zerubbabel this way, Not by might; nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of host [Zechariah 4:6]. He was saying, by the unction of the Holy Spirit, that it is not by our own power that we can get the job done, but it is by the (anointing) of the Holy Spirit that we will complete the task at hand.

On another occasion, in 1 Samuel 10:1, Samuel,
