About this ebook

Everyone has some kind of fear. "Fear not, Do not be afraid" is probably the single most difficult command in the bible. We may not have killed, robbed or committed adultery, but we all are certainly guilty of this one command.

No wonder then, there is so much on the internet that says that the phrase 'FEAR NOT' or 'DO NOT BE AFRAID' appears 366 times in the Bible, because it is believed that God knew that this was our weakest area that the devil would attack. So these 366 times is like giving us a reminder every day, including one for a leap year too. But if you really take count, there are actually more than 366 "Fear not's" or related terms in the Bible! Thank God for this, because we need to be reminded to trust God not just every day, but every moment of the day- as it is Him that runs the universe and our lives- not us!

Worry is the result of fear ... lots of fear! Fear about loss, fear about security, fear about safety, fear about tomorrow- People are worried about losing a loved one, losing a job, sicknesses, diseases or viruses, neighbours, insects, fear of making a presentation in public…Well the list could go on!

Fear is one of Satan's most popular weapons that he uses against us, filling us with worry, anxiety, fear, torment and so forth. However, the Word of God in 2 Timothy 1.7 tells us very clearly "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind". John 10.10 further tells us that the enemy, the devil is that thief who only comes to steal, kill and destroy…and he does it in that order, first starting with your peace and ultimately ending to destroy you! That is what he is doing right now to the entire world.

Worry has never changed anything. It is worthless. If you think worrying about the viruses in the air, will save you from it or worrying about your kids will make them safer- it is only a false form of control. It has no effect. Worriers are always going back and forth over an issue they are worried about- one minute they decide one thing and something else the next! Worry is like a rocking chair-it only tosses you back and forth. You can't change the past, you can't control the future, and in the process you will only mess up today. In James 1:8 we read that "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways..." Worry is focusing on me and my fears – and not God. It's like telling God, let me do your work of being in control!

This little Book: 'Building Faith over Fear! Face Everything And Rise with JESUS!'  is to help you do just that by providing you the right biblical ways of handling fear and enabling you Rise with Jesus!

So walk with the confidence that the God of this universe is with you, in whatever you do and wherever you go!

    Introduction

There’s a story of how on one night during a severe thunderstorm a mother was tucking her small son into bed. She was about to turn the light off when the child asked in a trembling voice, Mommy, will you stay with me all night? Smiling, the mother gave him a warm, reassuring hug and said tenderly, I can't dear. I have to sleep in Daddy's room.

A long silence followed. At last it was broken by a shaky voice saying, That big sissy!

This may seem funny but sadly, man’s greatest enemy is Fear. No wonder the first words uttered to the disciples after the Lord’s Resurrection were: ‘Peace be unto you’ because He knew that they were huddled up in that upper room with fear.

Everyone has some kind of fear. Fear not, Do not be afraid is probably the single most difficult command in the bible. We may not have killed, robbed or committed adultery, but we all are certainly guilty of this one command.

No wonder then, there is so much on the internet that says that the phrase ‘FEAR NOT’ or ‘DO NOT BE AFRAID’ appears 366 times in the Bible, because it is believed that God knew that this was our weakest area that the devil would attack. Thank God for this, because we need to be reminded to Fear not and trust God not just every day, but every moment of the day.

There is another word associated with fear- and that is the word ‘Worry’. The word translated worry in Greek is Merimnao which is really two different Greek words: Merizo which means TO DIVIDE and Nous meaning MIND.  In other words it means a divided mind. So the word ‘Worry’ in Greek is to ‘divide the mind!’ If you study the English root of this word, the word worry comes from the Old English wyrgan, which originally meant strangle And that’s what it does to us in some way or the other!

There is one unique characteristic of human beings that most certainly does not exist among animals or birds ... WORRY!  Notice that they never worry about food, water or shelter ...In fact they never worry about anything-politics or the neighbours or whether they are going to be taken care of or not!  Yet, we humans worry about any and everything! I believe that the reason why animals or birds don't worry is because they don't have a sense of time, of future vs. the present.  When we worry, it is usually about the future: what will we do next, or how am I going to handle this situation when it comes up or What will tomorrow be like? or "What more can come up after this?

Everyone has some type of fear at sometime or the other. And almost every day, you knowingly or unknowingly run into someone who is going through an anxiety or fear- and those fears could be ‘how am I going to manage through this week or month, or what people think of me’ and so forth. Worry is the result of fear ... lots of fear!

Fear about loss, fear about security, fear about safety, fear about tomorrow- People are worried about losing a loved one, losing a job, sicknesses, diseases or viruses, neighbours, insects, fear of making a presentation in public...Well the list could go on!

It may come as a surprise to you that in one of the studies conducted a few years back, public speaking was feared even more than death. Talking of the fear of public speaking...Well, my own example is a wonderful testimony of how the Lord helped me get over this fear of speaking and is using that same attribute to get His messages across to many lives.

Many years ago, fear of speaking was my ‘greatest’ fear. I remember whilst working in a large multi-national, as head of Sales I was required to address meetings and conferences regularly. I was otherwise excellent in my job and quite comfortable addressing people one on one, but when it came to large gatherings like a conference, training or seminar- that was where I literally chickened out. It was so dreadful; that there were times I would apply for leave of absence only to avoid these situations. I remember even times when it got so bad that I even contemplated on quitting that position.

But when I look back today, I realize that it was Gods’ divine plan to equip me for greater things He had in store later on for my life. After serving in that organization for almost 17 years, could you imagine moving into something that I detested the most all those years. I left to set up my own training organization (yes, you got it right- a training organisation!) and that meant speaking in front of several batches of people from middle to senior levels almost every other day. Again, even at this stage, I did not realize that God had so beautifully orchestrated this whole thing- equipping me further to use these same skills to help others. After almost twelve or so years in corporate training in the year 2013, the Lord then moved me partly into ministry at that stage helping me develop myself further before the fulltime ministry call in 2018, when I started our small home church: ‘Throne Room Worship’

The fear of public speaking often literally shuts down potential success stories.  Yet, there are great speakers today who refused to allow fear to hold them back. They may have started out in fear but they refused to yield to it and got up and stared fear down to the point it no longer influenced them. In the corporate world there are numerous stories. Warren Buffet is a great example of someone who refused to be crippled with the fear of public speaking and today is one of the richest men in the world. There are many great examples in our very own Bible- where they
