Besides the group of poets who needed to get into smaller shoes to set their imaginations free, it was a pleasure to have a few younger writers on the team... our youngest a beautiful young lady aged three years old! How wonderful to know that poetry is well and alive being enjoyed across generations! (Annette Potgieter, SA)

Selected Poems For Children - Fabrizio Frosini
Opening Note
Although some of the poems in this collection are new, most are a selection of the poems already published in the anthology CHILDREN WE ARE – Poems For Children
.
The following is taken up (and partially modified) from my Opening Note to that book.
The publication of our second anthology of poems for children —the first, published in 2017, was 'Let's Laugh Together'— comes at a time when the world is facing a horrible health, social and economic crisis. Among those who are paying the highest price because of the coronavirus pandemic: the poor, the sick, the elderly and even children.
Yes, children are paying a huge price, especially on a psychological level: isolation, being forced into even very small spaces, the lack of relationships with peers, not to mention even more serious problems that can affect family life, increase the sense of fear, uncertainty and anxiety in children.
For such a reason, for this special project we have accepted not only poems but also paintings made by small children, and we are therefore grateful to those parents who have given us permission to include their children’s works (poems and paintings) in this anthology.
I also want to express my gratitude to my co-editors —Tom Billsborough, John Davison and Carol Fenwick— and to All the Poets & Painters of this Anthology: this book is the product of their commitment.

Introduction
[The following is the partially modified text of the Introduction to the Anthology CHILDREN WE ARE – Poems For Children
, written by Annette Potgieter]
Morag Styles, Professor of Children Poetry at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, ponders that perhaps children’s response to poetry starts as early as in the womb, at the rhythmic beating of the heart.
This is the second poetry book for children released by Poets Unite Worldwide, under the admirable leadership of Fabrizio Frosini, from the confinement of his home in Tuscany. Whilst the world braced for the vicious attack of COVID-19 and held its breath at the news of the extent to which beautiful Italy was affected, Frosini encouraged poets to offer children poems that can mitigate their fears and make them dream
. And poets from around the world stepped into the shoes of their younger selves, rearranged their glasses to appreciate the magic of the first morning rays and slipped into wings of faith. And as the world was held in the grip of the novel virus, behold, a potpourri of dreamy children poetry was born.
The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it. The reason birds can fly and we can’t, is simply that they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.
—from The Little White Bird by J.M. Barrie.
Children fly on wings of faith above the turbulence that life brings. They have a charming ability to dream sunshine into the hurricane, visualize the orange of Autumn on a naked winter tree and hear the ocean when all we see is endless scorching desert. Our poets tapped into that ability when they lifted their feathers and dipped it in ink. Just to mention a few:
Anitah Muwanguzi invites the reader to a distant time and place where eager dirty faces, ran bare feet and unattended, until caring hands reached out and a loving voice said: Let the little children come to me.
Thea Gomez explains why cats and dogs can never lose their socks and shoes, but little boys and girls can, if they don’t put them away where they belong.
Steven Vogel watches snow flakes fall through an empty tree, before forming
