    About the author

    Day 1

Poznań -> Schleswig -> Haithabu campsite, (662 km)

I had all my stuff packed up in the trunks the day before and in any case I had been putting them in the room for some time so as not to forget anything. The closer to departure, the more I put aside so as not to take too much. In the end I expected that I would also bring something back from the trip.

The motorbike had been serviced, inspected, checked over and stood ready in the garage. All that was needed now was to get it out, fire up and go.

    Ready for the trip

On the first day we didn't have too much of a run because it seemed that it was sufficient to ride along 660 km of motorways, which is why we left a bit later than expected, i.e. well after ten in the morning. We'd agreed that I would ride ahead and we would not go too fast, that is something in the order of 120 km/h because we had a schedule in place. I also suggested that we would stop every 100 km to rest and have a drink, especially since the temperature was constantly rising and, as it turned out later, it got to over 30° centigrade.

It was a difficult day for riding. We'd ridden almost from the German border to the Hamburg bypass and there was exceptionally heavy car traffic. Additionally, there were some really long traffic jams. At first, we avoided them by going in the middle, but it was very stressful and ... dangerous because I was afraid that someone would turn round or open the door.

At one point, two bikers on German number plates overtook us in the hard shoulder and without further ado, I followed them knowing that driving along it is prohibited, however, hoping for possible police tolerance, we hooked up behind them and in this way we covered another several kilometers.

We stopped for a slightly longer break to eat dinner around 4pm and this time I cooked so to speak ... well I poured hot water to make goulash soup which was a freeze-dried dish that is ready to eat after 10 minutes. When I later saw my photo from this parking area, I was terrified because I looked very tired. The congestion, traffic jams and high temperatures had given me a hard time, and there was still a long way ahead of us.

    We got to the Haithabu
