Fake It Till You Make It - Erika M Szabo

    Prologue

Nancy arrives home from a long day at work. She kicks off her high heels and walks into the kitchen. Bruce lights the candles on the dinner table and embraces her in a warm hug. Her two girls, ages five and six, are running from the playroom to greet her. Their handsome seventeen-year-old boy looks up from his computer and smiles at her.

Welcome home, honey. Dinner is ready, go wash up, Bruce announces, smiling. Nancy is happy; she counts her blessings to have found a man like Bruce.

They eat dinner and talk about their day. Nancy works at a law firm; she tells him about the long and boring meetings, and that she had to bring some work home. He assures her that it’s okay because he has some laundry to finish. He winks at her playfully, hinting and promising a pleasure-filled evening before they go to sleep.

The children are chatting about their day.

Mommy, Dayna announces with sparkly eyes. We made a new pillow for Muffin. Isabelle sewed it together and I stuffed it. Muffin loves it!

Isabelle stands up and grabs her father’s phone. Look, mommy, she shows the picture of a sleeping puppy to her mother. Look, he’s hugging Teddy.

You gave him your favorite Teddy? Nancy asks. You never let anyone touch Teddy before.

I did because Muffin is a baby. He needs Teddy more than I do.

I’m so proud of you, my beautiful girls! Nancy says with tears in her eyes. What have you been doing all day, Liam? she turns to her son.

I drove to the store and picked up the dry-cleaning. Liam says feeling proud of his brand-new driver’s license. And after lunch I drove when we went to take a walk in the woods. We saw a baby deer; it was so cute."

A beautiful picture, isn’t it? The man plays the role of the happy househusband and the wife is the breadwinner. Nothing is wrong with that. But, let’s just see how they got to this ideal picture of a happy home.

    The Clock Is Ticking

They were in their early thirties when they met, and after a short courtship, Bruce proposed. They decided to get married and start a family. Nancy
