About this ebook
Music artists were in my life, and I started to analyse lyrics, which I guess led me to analyse books...
Little did I know over the seven and a bit years I wrote that it was setting me up for bigger and better scribblings, namely novels over 500 pages and 125,000 words, and novellas, short stories and non-fictions.
By the time 2002 rolled around, I was 28 years old and wrote one song. That’s all I wrote. And I’m surprised I wrote that because I hadn’t written in six years. That was the last song, and all of them were my practice for story-telling in four verses, a chorus, and a bridge for much bigger and better things.
Covering a wide range of topics from 1993-2002, or volumes 4-6, mostly love, I plagiarise myself a lot, so have a good laugh, especially over the witty one-liners and anecdotes about what was happening, who I wanted to be, or who I had a crush on.
They are not perfect, nor meant to be; they’re just the musings of a young teenage girl with crushes and dreams.
Enjoy!

Poems Of A Musical Flavour - Tiara King
INTRODUCTION
My writing career can be traced back to primary school, year 7 to be exact, when I wrote and published my first book. After that I wrote and published a second and third for school and then for some reason, fancied myself as a song writer. I wrote lyrics, more on that in a moment, and wrote songs
because I wanted to be a singer. But after seven years I stopped and that was replaced ten years later by longer songs
called novels. That’s when books and short stories came. Then came the idea to write out and print up these lyrics of mine into books…
It took me three weeks to write out 639 sets of song lyrics and I was definite that I had 700…maybe I need to add to that 639…I even wrote songs about child abuse, heavy lyrics by my standard back in 1994 when I was 20, and probably still very relevant today. There are also a few things I realise now, at the ripe old age of 44 (at the time of this publishing), that I would not have realised back then.
1 - Most of the songs had the same lyrics, so I seemed to plagiarise myself a lot.
2 - The lyrics were incredibly young-sounding at the beginning.
3 - I wrote the way so many teens did back then.
4 - I was way ahead of my years and the time because of the topics I wrote about, and surprisingly, they are still very and incredibly relevant, if not more dominant, now.
My lyrics were young because I started writing them when I was 15 in 1989. It was year ten in high school, I played the drums and piano, wore a funky blue knitted jumper with a stave on it with the first line of Funky Town and thought I was hot. I also wanted to be a singer...
I wanted to be Australia’s version of Debbie Gibson and I’m listening to her first album, Out of the Blue, as I write this (I love ’80s music more than anything). I loved everything about her. Her funky clothes to the Swatch watches she wore. And when she moved into her new mansion, I wanted it and everything else. That’s why she inspired me with her lyrics and melodies. She did it all. It also didn’t hurt that the only time she ever toured Australia was with my favourite Aussie band, Indecent Obsession. I also wrote many a song about them. She even had a thing with the lead singer. Oooooohhhhhh.
Debbie Gibson was huge, along with Tiffany, Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Indecent Obsession, Yazz, Kim Wilde, and an abundance of others in 1989. There was ’80s bubble-gum/pop blasting from every radio and TV. Even Jem and the Holograms got a go (gotta love the ’80s). Debbie was the inspiration for my lyrics, so the early ones are very similar in a young teenage style of the ’80s. They aged as I did but I stopped writing after 7 years as I’d moved on, but did write one song in 2002. But Debbie is very much in there, in inspiration for song titles, or lines or phrases, as are so many other artists who gave me the idea for a funky tune or romantic ballad.
When going back over the decades of music, lyrics were incredibly simple, be it ’50s, ’60s, ’70s or ’80s. Come the ’90s it changed. Grunge came in and lyrics became down right weird and you’d read them and go ‘what were they on when they wrote this?’ These days it’s different again. Between Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and so many other females and males, not to mention bands, lyrics have become harder, edgier, and downright far too sexy for the teens singing them. I occasionally wonder how they come up with such adult stuff.
Back in the day lyrics were young and innocent, now, they’re far too sexual. I definitely don’t know if I could write any now, the lyrics would be older, more mature, but writing books gives me a longer platform to get the story across. Not sure I could do it in four verses, a chorus, and a bridge any more. But you never know. Writing them all up gave me inspiration…And you know I can’t not write something…with everything else I already write and the books yet to be written…something is going to come out at some stage.
I wrote from 1989 to 2002 then that was it. Four years later I wrote my first novel, and I think my lyrics made way for that. I even wrote song trilogies which have stood me in good stead for writing the book trilogy I wrote in 2016. Lyrics were clearly my training for bigger and longer stories, which songs are. They are stories of love, pain, hurt, heartache etc. Just listen to country songs. The dog dies, the wife leaves and the ute breaks down. Songs are full of it and many times lyrics are simple.
Remember all those really poppy songs from the ’80s? Try Stock, Aitken and Waterman songs, Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Bananarama, Sonia, any UK 80s pop act had one of their songs and they were all done to formula. Two verses, chorus, two verses, chorus, bridge, chorus to end. The music was what sucked you in, it was up tempo, poppy and danceable. But analyse the lyrics and they were the most teenager-ish ridiculous things around. Yet they meant so much at the time when we were young, but reading back over them as adults they are just silly and childish. Remember B*Witched’s Rollercoaster and Kylie’s I Should Be So Lucky? Enough said!
But that’s what makes a pop song, and that’s what I wrote. Young pop lyrics from a 15-22 year old that didn’t know any better and wasn’t experienced at anything we call life. Like now.
Did my lyrics get older and more mature? Sort of. You can see the progression into ’94-’96. Around this time Alanis Morissette came out and I desperately wished I could write a song like her. I didn’t have her angst, but I tried. I’m not sure I succeeded. There are a few good sets of lyrics in the last years and some of my song titles were freakin’ awesome, like Brunettes Look Best in Red, Ginger Elle, Cool Fred and Firenze. A line from someone else’s song, or an Impulse body spray name (big body spray label over here that’s been around forever) was all for the taking.
I did songs about politics, the world, generation x (the Spice Girls ripped me off a few years later with that one, lol). No topic was not written about…that I remember.
But for me, life took a turn and here we are, nearly 30 years later, and I still don’t sing or write song lyrics. Instead, I write books and short stories under three names and maybe these songs, these lyrics, were the beginning of my ability to come up with unusual titles and strange stories (although I’m sure all of my English teachers at school could attest to the fact I did that even earlier), and writing a trilogy of songs as I do a trilogy of books.
Thank you to all the muses, guides, helpers, inspirational musicians and singers that gave me the lines, the titles, the ideas for these songs. I honour you and dedicate these books to all of you.
These books are a culmination of my love of music.
I’ve written a line or two about the artist or song that inspired me with the lyrics and why, on many of the songs, most of which are pop songs unless otherwise stated, and let’s hope I won’t get sued for using someone as inspiration (so many lawsuits going on these days). But jokes aside, I was young and a teenager and these songs are what I came up with. And now I’m publishing them just for the fun of it, and to have more books under my name on my author page, and on my bookshelf.
Whether or not you enjoy them is up to you, but remember, if you plagiarise me, you’re being sued...and no, I’m not joking…
VOLUMES 4 & 5
1993
In this section I’ve combined the single Volumes of 4 and 5 together since they covered the one year.
I was 19 years old and still living in Adelaide, South Australia, but then, what else was I going to be doing? I beat my previous year’s record and wrote 200 songs.
Covering a wide range of topics, mostly love, and plagiarised by myself. Life in general was changing, the world, the people in it, the ways, the whys, the what’s. What the hell were we doing to the world? If only we had kept things the way they were because they changed. And not for the better.
Not much had changed in four years, things were still the same on the home front. I just didn’t realise how much the same they’d stay over the course of my life. But no need to get into that.
ALWAYS ballad
I wrote this song on Valentine’s Day 1993. It was the first song of the year.
V1
I know something,
No matter what you say,
Or what you do,
I’ll Always love you.
V2
But I don’t remember you,
Or any of our past,
It’s not real to me,
You’re not real to me.
V3
But I am real,
And I’m right here,
To love you,
And guide you.
CHORUS
I will Always…be here…for you,
When you’re in, need of,
A little love and trust,
Which everyone wants so much,
Believe in Always.
V4
Everyone has to believe,
At some time, in their lives,
For there, always comes a time,
When you will find a prize.
V5
But how long will it take?
Does it take forever?
How much time,
Too much time.
V6
All the time,
It has to take,
To bring us together,
Back together.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Always,
Is it a lifetime commitment?
Something,
We hold on to believe in,
Do you believe in,
Always and forever,
One thing,
I hold onto to keep us together.
FRESH
Inspired by Melissa’s song, Fresh.
CHORUS1
Look who’s getting Fresh,
Can’t go nowhere without you on my mind,
Look who’s getting Fresh,
Can’t say nothing, without you in my thoughts,
(oh baby)
V1
Fresh, can’t control yourself now boy,
Using all the girls like they’re toys,
Fresh…Fresh, Fresh, Fresh.
V2
Fresh, gotta give a come on,
Gotta get it done,
Fresh…Fresh, Fresh, Fresh.
CHORUS1
V3
Fresh, you say your heart’s always fallin’ in love,
But your body will never get enough,
Fresh…Fresh, Fresh, Fresh.
V4
Fresh, gotta give a French kiss,
Gotta getta quick fixx,
Fresh…Fresh, Fresh, Fresh woohh.
CHORUS2
Look who’s getting Fresh,
Can’t keep his hands to himself by his side,
Look who’s getting Fresh,
Can’t keep his lips, off of mine.
BRIDGE
Fresh boys know,
There’s only one way to go,
But if they ever succeed,
I’ll be very surprised indeed,
But is it just a masquerade?
Laced with coke and lemonade,
Coz Fresh boys should know,
You can’t get Fresh girls to go.
BOTH CHORUSES
BREAK1
Fresh…how many boys here are?
Fresh…Fresh, Fresh, Fresh aaahhhh.
BOTH CHORUSES
BREAK2
Fresh…how many girls wanna Fresh, Fresh boy?
Fresh, Fresh, Fresh woohhh.
DON’T KEEP ME IN THE DARK
Going old school with inspiration from A-ha’s Hunting High And Low and Arcadia’s So Red The Rose. Arcadia was three members of Duran Duran at one stage.
CHORUS
Don’t Keep Me In The Dark,
Save that, for another day,
Something’s missing in my heart,
Something, that won’t go away,
There’s a flame, promising goodbye forever,
Lady Ice, freezing in the dark.
V1
Lady Ice,
Coming to freeze your emotions,
It can’t be nice,
Climbing such high mountains.
V2
Was it the rose?
I sent to you on last Monday,
Lady Ice froze,
Your emotions away.
CHORUS
V3
Come on flame,
I need you on my side,
Melt away,
The problems that arise.
V4
Tell me now boy,
Something’s gotta be goin’ on,
There’s no way,
I’m gonna be left in the dark again.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Hunting high and low,
For the reason,
Tell me now,
Before the season changes,
Did I put a range?
On my love for you boy,
Is that why you can’t tell me,
So you keep me in the dark.
BEST FRIEND’S BOYFRIEND
CHORUS1
He’s my Best Friend’s Boyfriend,
Don’t like deceiving, my friend for life,
He’s her boyfriend, but do I really care?
Yes I think I do.
V1
Met a guy, not so long ago,
In a club I was going to,
He was standing there,
Was he waiting for me?
V2
Coz this guy, was an instant attraction,
We hit it off right away,
And I knew things were,
Going so well we danced…
V3
The whole night, in each other’s arms,
He was simply a dream,
And he smiled down at me,
It was going right.
CHORUS2
Should I tell her the truth?
Yes I think I have to,
What’s gonna happen,
Coz I like him too.
V4
Night over,
Went back to my best friend’s place,
Told her about you,
She showed me a picture of her true love,
And then I realised about my guy.
BOTH CHORUSES
BRIDGE
Best friend,
Best Friend’s Boyfriend,
What am I gonna do?
He’s her boyfriend,
I won’t cheat on me.
ILLUSIONS
Going back to 1986 with this Jem and The Holograms Love Is Doin’ It, inspired song.
V1
Do you see something,
Not there before,
Sure you’re not seeing things,
Do you hear noises,
Go bump in the night,
Sure you’re not hearing things.
V2
Could be simple tricks,
Played on you,
But it could be your mind,
Fooling with you.
CHORUS1
Illusions,
Mind bending, thought twisting,
Illusions,
Like a rainbow there to be caught,
A unicorn ready to ride.
V3
Is it there to be touched, and felt?
Real life, is it there to be heard,
And seen, all right.
V4
But am I just a fantasy?
An illusion in your mind,
See if I am real,
Touch me and you will find.
CHORUS2
Am I an Illusion?
In front of you but untouchable,
Illusion,
I want to be your dream come true,
So lay your cards on the table.
BRIDGE
Illusion,
More than just a scent,
Illusion,
More than just a sentiment,
Touch me,
Find that I am real,
Come inside me,
Occupy my,
Heart with me,
Coz I’m no illusion.
FASCINATION
Inspired by Melissa’s song, Imagination.
Fill your Fascination with my love…
V1
Imagination,
Is what it takes, to keep people going,
Civilisation,
Is this our way of life.
V2
Vibration,
Is in the air, when we are together,
Sensation,
Is what we feel when we…
V3
Touch each other,
When we’re standing near,
No self-control.
CHORUS
Fascination, with the object of lovin’,
Fascination, with the length of time,
Two people can love, got to understand,
Life is another plan,
So fill your Fascination with my love.
V4
Celebration,
Is what we can, share together with love,
Temptation,
What’ch’ya doin’ to me.
V5
Radiation,
You want to know how it happened to us,
Intoxication,
Of your heavenly scent.
V6
The first time,
Burned through to my heart,
Now you’re mine.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Addiction, that’s what you are,
Flirtation, is what you give,
Creation, of our love you did make,
Coz you have a Fascination with love,
Realisation, that true love does exist,
Elation, that we can make it,
Coz you have a Fascination so fill it with my love.
INSPIRATION ballad
Inspired by a beautiful song, Deborah Conway’s White Roses.
CHORUS
Coz you, are an Inspiration,
When I am down,
And you, know how to make me laugh,
Bring me around,
To the right frame of mind,
Show me a good time,
An Inspiration,
When it comes to love.
V1
I could watch you,
Every move you make,
Listen to and learn from you,
Advice from you I would take.
V2
So much you told me,
So much you showed me,
And when it came to love,
You gave me the best advice of all.
CHORUS
V3
I would follow you,
Watch every situation,
Learn how to get myself out,
You were definitely an inspiration.
V4
So I took your love,
When you gave your love,
And I held it in hope,
For boy you are…
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Picked me up, set me down,
On my feet, brought me around,
To your way, of thinking clear,
Love’s no mystery, now you’re here.
BOYFRIEND
Inspired by Melissa’s Tonight’s The Night.
Boyfriend, b-b-b-b boyfriend.
CHORUS1
I’m gonna get you as my Boyfriend,
One of these days,
Don’t worry none,
I’ll do all the chasing.
V1
Can’t wait no longer,
But I got to bide my time,
Got to make the right decisions,
So I can make you mine.
V2
I’ve wasted precious time,
And I’m angry ‘bout that now,
But I know my anger,
Will stop somewhere somehow.
V3
I know that soon, I’ll be taking a chance,
And you won’t see me coming.
CHORUS2
You’re gonna be my Boyfriend,
Just stand back and enjoy what happens,
I’ll coach you in the kissing.
V4
I’m getting closer,
‘Bout to make my move,
Feeling your body so close,
Gets me in the groove.
V5
Not wasting no more time,
I’m ready to pounce,
Energy your heat is taking,
Is draining every ounce.
V6
I know that now, it’s gonna be the moment,
That I take you can’t resist.
BOTH CHORUSES
BRIDGE
I’m giving no warnings,
Could be noon, night or morning,
You won’t see me coming,
Coz you won’t have no knowing,
Of the situation at hand,
No mystery is good enough,
It takes two players, me and you,
In case you didn’t have a clue.
FEVER
Also inspired by Melissa’s Tonight’s The Night.
V1
Got a Fever,
Burning in my soul,
You’ve heard all this before,
But it’s my story to be told.
V2
You drive a Fever,
To the darkest parts,
Of my mind and body,
And my red of reddest hearts.
CHORUS
Fever,
Is what you give me in the middle of the night,
When I’m all alone,
And want to hold you tight,
Fever,
Can you feel it, poundin’ in your heart,
At unexpected moments,
When you’re alone in the dark.
V3
I have a Fever,
Adding fuel to the fire,
Got no self-control,
But got a lot of desire.
V4
You drive a Fever,
To my secret corners,
I don’t have a reason,
Coz I lost all my senses.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
I’m getting hot,
And only you can satisfy,
So come on thrill me,
Coz temptation is riding high,
So come on, baby come on,
And share some Fever tonight.
SNOW KISSES, SUMMER WIND ballad
CHORUS1
Snow Kisses, Summer Wind,
I don’t know if I should let your love in,
Break through, this protective shield,
Surrounding me.
