BC%20Ribbon.jpgINTRODUCTION
Words really can’t describe what it means to me to be able share this gift with the world. God has truly done marvelous things in my life that may be minute to others but great to me. He has favored me in so many ways and I am so grateful for His love. Life means change and change brings about progress. I am definitely in the progressive stage in my life. I’m becoming a more mature woman and learning more of the dimensions of who I am, how I got to this place in my life, and where God is taking me to. I’m excited and prepared for the road ahead.
I must say that things are different this time around. This collection of poems speaks from a different place of me. The Eclipse of Love, Pain, and Happiness was the beginning of my journey into womanhood and Simply Me
is my acceptance of my past, my choices, and future. I know someone is thinking, How can she be accepting of an uncertain future?
One thing that I have become certain of and more secure in knowing is that God has me. I trust that the plans He has for my life will surpass my own understanding and imagination. There is more in store and I am more than ready to receive His blessings and live my life according to His purpose and design. A part of doing that is being honest with myself, being accountable for my choices and actions, and preparing myself to be in a place to receive the things I ask God for.
In my quest to share this wonderful gift, it is my duty to represent it in a positive light. I think about what I have been through and the most evident reason of sharing is that my story is relatable to someone who has endured or experienced the very same thing. Heartbreaks, disappointment, challenges, life obstacles, even tragedy and death are things we, at some point in our lives, will deal with. How we deal with it, is the testimony. An in essence every poem or story I write is a testimony. We never know how our story will uplift or encourage someone to reach for their dreams or overcome an obstacle. Not only am I expressing my own thoughts and emotions but, hopefully, I’m helping someone else to understand, deal with, and express their own. The Eclipse of Love, Pain, and Happiness was indeed a pivotal moment in my life as I, with the favor of God, saw one of my dreams come to pass. Now to be releasing this second collection of poetry, it is certainly a wow
moment. But that is how God works! When we see small, He sees great and I am so glad He saw me worthy of having such blessings. I think about my readers and those who are impacted in some way from my poetry and I get a feeling of such overwhelming gratitude. I am truly appreciative to everyone who has supported me and been on my team thus far. I have been blessed to meet some very incredible people along this journey and through the love, guidance, and support of them all; I have been encouraged to continue striving toward my goals and aspirations.
What a platform this is to reach so many people. Growing up my voice was muffled by so many things. Perfection has never been an accurate characteristic trait of anyone, none of us are perfect. I made so many mistakes just by being caught up in the world’s opinion of me. However, I have come to realize that perception is merely what you see and there is so much more to me than that. Although I know I am not finished making mistakes, I am indeed done with allowing people to dictate my choices and decisions no matter the cost, problem, or situation. So many times we allow other folk’s stuff to make our personal burdens heavier. Personally, I’m through carrying burdens that don’t belong to me and mine are placed in the God’s hands. Our life experiences have to be something we experience, deal with, and move on from. It is time for us to hold on to blessings instead of burdens. The power is in letting go, words I have had to preach to myself on more than one occasion. There may be times when we focus on what was or what could have been but we only have the power to change what can be. We don’t know when our last minute, day or hour is so we have to be ready and live this life to our fullest potential. We don’t get do overs. I take that to heart and though it is sometimes overwhelming, I strive to make all my dreams come true.
I was watching the OWN network and was introduced to Iyanla Vanzant. WOW to this woman! I have had experience speaking to groups of young people and I always found myself praying about whether I said the right things. Iyanla Vanzant, in her love for people, literally broke me down from my couch in my home. It was so clear it was like she was speaking to me. You have to get yourself together.
I knew I was battling some personal demons and that I needed to change some things in my life. By listening to this woman from my living room I knew that in order to heal, I had to deal. We know these things in our mind but we just don’t want to have to face the things that hurt us or what is hindering us from moving forward. I watch her shows and take something life changing from them every time. I want to Be in peace and not in pieces,
as Iyanla would say at the end of her episodes. People stay buried in hurt, shame, and depression for so long their life slips away and you look back and wonder where the time went. Not me, not anymore. One of the most valuable things I have learned from this inspirational woman is that I have to own my feelings, own my mistakes, my emotions and decisions. I spread that wisdom to the people I encounter and when I mentor young people. I have a few girls I call my babies and I do my best to pour love all over them. Love heals! Love teaches and guides and it is the link that holds so many people together. It is because of the love of Christ that we are even
