    Then he is gone. Disappeared info the night. No explanation, no note, no phone call. She never learns why they left. Even after their parents move back without them. There is no way Leigha will ask what happened or where is the love of her life? She believes there will never be this profound of a love for another man again.

    Nine years later, two children and one failed marriage, Leigha is bartending at one of the taverns in a small town outside of the gated community in which they grew up. Learning of his Mother's death makes her wonder if he will return for the funeral. 

    Sauntering into the tavern, exhausted and full of sorrow, Zain Devold bellies up to the bar to get drunk, chase away the hurt that lives inside from losing his Mother. Leigha comes to take his order. They stare at one another for what seems like an eternity. All of the questions she has must wait. The pain on his face is extremely thick. 

    As the night goes on and the tavern empties they have time to talk. She closes the joint for the night letting him stay while she cleans. She can't seem to make him leave. Not just yet.

    Will Zain finally accept the one thing that Leigha so willingly wanted to give him as teenagers? One night of pure passion, an ecstacy that she knows only he can give her. Or will they leave the past where it belongs? In the past....

      About the Author

      This book is very close to my heart. It is about my first love. The names have been changed, and some of the situations were created in my mind, but the oddness of our relationship and the love we shared is so very real. He is someone that can never be forgotten. He was my first everything except sex. Meeting up with him again when we were twenty-four is real, the way it happened was different.

      I still see him from time to time. When we do run into each other, we kiss and hug like it was when we were young. Whoever we are with at the time gets an explanation of why that just happened. If they do not understand the depth of our relationship, then that is not the person we are meant to be with. He had left many girls due to the fit they had when he and I embraced.

      He attended both of my weddings. Dancing with him on my wedding day seemed more profound to me than dancing with my new husband. That spark between us will never fade.

      He may be my first love, and a man that will hold a piece of my heart forever, the two of us were not meant to be a couple. We have accepted that and stay in each other's thoughts.

      He did sign everything Your Hickey. It was our little joke. The size of that Hickey was no joke.

      If he ever sees this, hope he thinks I did a delightful job portraying our love and that I miss his sister very much still.

      Oh, and the song was Every Rose Has It's Thorn by Guns and Roses.

      Where it Started

      The summer of 1986 is almost over, and we are about to start seventh grade. Our 1986-1987 school year! Can’t believe we are starting Junior High! It is like I’ve been waiting forever to get into High School!

      Over this summer my body changed so much. Grew three inches, thinned out some and got breasts. My sister taught me how to shave my legs and other parts so there would be no overhang out of my swim suit. Guess I am supposed to care about that stuff now.

      Also, got my period...

      Yay... Never wanted to get this thing. Yeah, yeah, I am a woman now. Whoopee.... My Mom was way more excited about it than I was. Then the light bulb above her head burst as she realized that not only am I a woman, I can now and will want to have sex and am able to make babies.

      Thought she was going to have a heart attack. She burst into tears at the thought. Took me hours to explain to her that boys are not on the list of fun. The boys have been jerks to me. Being short and chubby, I was the butt of all their jokes up until the end of the last school year. At only twelve (almost thirteen) the thought of some boy touching me is still disgusting.

      Growing up in a strict Catholic, Italian family sucks. The rules are heavy and finding ways around them are difficult. Begged my Mom to put me on birth control to help with this period thing. Um, no. Catholic’s don’t believe in it. So, once a month I am tortured by cramping and the nastiness of all that blood. You would think the amount of time that I spend in my bed crying would make her give in. Nope.

      My Dad, on the other hand, is very strict. My curfew is not to be broken for any reason. Get caught sneaking out or breaking his rules... He is so not afraid to whoop my ass if he is disobeyed. I could be buried in an avalanche and get grounded for being a minute late. ‘Should’ve started digging your way out sooner so you could get home on time.’ Is what he would tell me.

      A day for every minute. Was twenty-eight minutes late one night due to the excessive fog. My safety first, right? HA! Should’ve left earlier. How did we know it got foggy? We were in a movie theater. Should’ve gone out periodically to check the weather.

      Love it that he is so strict but damn, give a girl a break. (Will always be a Daddy’s girl anyway.) Almost a whole month with no phone or friends over was brutal! These are the years that prep you for High School. What clique you will end up in, how the others will treat you.
