Heir of Power - Alan Mushegan Jr.

    Amen!

    INTRODUCTION

In August 2015 our church, Full Turn Church, began a 21-day corporate fast at the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Prayer and fasting are the platform for empowerment, setting the stage for powerful moves of God to occur.

I have fasted many times, but something was different about this one. I set my heart towards encountering God in a greater way than ever before, determined to fast and pray like a man on a mission to touch God and capture His heart for revival. It was during this time that the Lord revealed to me the truths contained in this book.

This book came from intimate moments spent in the presence of the Lord in the early morning hours—revelations given to me as a result of prayer and seeking. Many of these revelations were expressed in a five-part series, LIMITLESS, that I preached in the fasting period, during which the Holy Spirit spoke to our church in a profound way.

    LIMITLESS SUPPLY

Our God is like an ocean. All that He possesses has never been fully explored, and His supply for us knows no limit. If you fill a glass full of water from the ocean, the ocean will continue to have so much more to give. If you fill a swimming pool with water from the ocean, it will still have so much more to give. If you fill a lake with water from the ocean, the ocean will still be as if nothing was ever drawn from it. That is how great God is. What He has to offer us in every way is greater than the deep, vast ocean that His Word created.

    God knows no limits!

Whatever vessel we offer to God, He can fill. The more we expand, the more He gives until we overflow and have to stretch again. Think of it like this. A fish can only grow to the size of its tank. Small tank; small fish. Big tank; big fish.

The environment that we create is vital to our spiritual growth and development. We must continue to stretch ourselves and continue to offer God an ever-bigger faith tank for us to grow in. Why? Because God will only work within the parameters of our faith.

We have limited ourselves because we have little faith. But, the God we serve is unlimited and He wants to give us all things that pertain to life and Godliness.

There are ways to expand and grow in God. We will explore these truths for spiritual growth because God is a God of increase and He wants you to grow.

    LEVELS OF REVELATION

Do you want to do the works of Christ? You can! Do you want to walk into a greater power and anointing? You can! Having a revelation that there is more to your walk with God than the work of salvation is the first step towards empowerment.

Revelation is so vital if we want to live a powerful life. One of the things that the Father revealed to me during my fast was that every truth in His word is a deep, deep, limitless well. There is no bottom.

Who can fathom just how deep God is? What if I told you that there are levels of revelation in every truth? There are also levels of faith, glory, and power. The levels that we attain are directly linked to the revelation we possess.

In the natural the more you drink, the less thirsty you become. The more you eat, the less you hunger. But, when it comes to things of the Spirit, the opposite is true. The more you drink, the thirstier you become. The more you feed on the Word of God, the hungrier you should be. The more time you spend in His presence, the more you want to know Him and display His nature.

That is the way I feel when I am in His presence. The more He reveals to me, the more I desire to see.

His power is limitless! His riches are immeasurable! His love knows no bounds!

Once you realize that God wants you to diligently seek Him, and that He wants you to know Him and to press into the vast depths of His glory and grace, you will never, ever want to settle for a normal life again.

    YOU CAN HAVE MORE!

When you spend time with God, He satisfies you in a way that nothing else can satisfy. At the same time He draws you into the deep and gives you an insatiable desire for more of His presence. There is more and God wants to give it to you! He wants you to know the depths of his truth, love, and power. He wants you to seek after Him like you would the most precious, priceless treasure.

When you do so, He will reveal the purpose for your life and all that He has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9). You will never be the same when you comprehend this simple revelation: God is a good Father. You are His child. He loves you and He wants to give you an incredible inheritance.

As you embark on this journey towards empowerment and seek to study the truths found within these pages, my prayer for you is the same prayer that Paul prayed over the Ephesians church—

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened,

that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe,

according to the working of His great might that He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

    Ephesians 1:15-23 ESV

I pray and believe that this book will be a game-changer for your life as you partner with God and realize that you have inherited His greatness—you are an heir to the limitless power of God!

    GAME CHANGER

You know it when it happens. Everything is just going along normally when, BAM! Out of the blue something so momentous happens that it changes the entire landscape of everything that you have ever known. Your entire universe is rocked! Everything changes.

The dictionary defines game-changer as a newly-introduced element or factor that changes an existing situation or activity in a significant way.

I have experienced some real game-changers: The moment I was called into the ministry; the day I first met my wife Jenny; our wedding day; and, the moment Olivia and Sadie were born. Each of these significant events changed my life in a monumental way at the very instant they occurred.

None was more startling, however, than the moment that God asked me to do something I never thought I would hear Him ask.

It was the beginning of 2010 and I was working for my father at his church— the church that I had grown up in. My grandfather, Harry Ararat Mushegan, established the church after moving from Phoenix, Arizona, to Atlanta, Georgia, in the 1960’s. My father, H. Alan Mushegan, Sr. assumed the leadership of the church in 1982 and moved it to Marietta in 1984. It rapidly grew even stronger, becoming an influential church in the area.

All of my life I just knew that it was my birthright to pastor the church that they had worked so hard to build. As the eldest son and first grandson, it was my destiny to take the reins and, by and through God’s grace, to pilot the church to its next level of growth and influence in the community. This was my father’s plan. This was my plan. It was a great plan! And, it made sense.

So there I was, working very hard to help my father build the church, knowing that at some point the Holy Spirit would give him the go-ahead and he would tell me my time had come—the moment that I had lived and worked for had finally arrived.

God had already done some incredible things in my life. The youth ministry I had pastored for eight and a half years was running hundreds of teens every week. When my time in youth ministry ended, I became the associate pastor of the church. The next logical step was to step into my father’s shoes—the same shoes that my grandfather had worn before him. My life was mapped out and everything was going according to plan. Then God changed everything!

As the year 2010 began the Lord directed me to fast, and several of my leaders decided to fast with me. I felt a sense of longing and searching that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but I knew I needed to put myself in a position to hear from God. I didn’t know I was going to hear from Him so quickly, and I certainly never dreamed He would say what He did!

    SUDDENLY

The Bible is full of stories of God changing people’s lives instantly—the suddenlies. One person who had an abrupt life-changing experience was the apostle Paul. Before he was known as Paul, he was Saul of Tarsus, a Pharisee who devoted himself to upholding the letter of the Law of Moses without mercy. He was so fervent in his defense of the Law that he went around killing Christians—he saw them as heretics.

But…suddenly! Acts 9 records how Saul was on his way into Damascus to chase down some followers of Christ, when the Lord appeared as a bright light and knocked him off his high horse—literally! In an instant, the biggest persecutor of the Christians became the most devout believer. Later Paul visited Heaven, spread the Gospel throughout the Mediterranean nations, established churches, and wrote many books of the New Testament.

On just the second day of the new year fast my own suddenly arrived. While I wasn’t struck off my horse, it was nevertheless earth-shaking.

The Holy Spirit said, I am calling you out of your father’s house to start your own church in an area almost an hour away.

    In that moment everything changed.

I can’t explain the feeling, and it is even strange to think back on it now. The second I heard God’s voice my spirit responded, This is what I am supposed to do.

On one hand I was excited to hear God’s voice so clearly. On the other the bottom had just fallen out of my life’s plan. I grew nervous as I thought of leaving everything I knew and the people I had worked with for so long—and had assumed I would work with forever. Instead, I would be launching out into something I had never done before in an unfamiliar place.

Thoughts ran through my mind: What is Dad going to think when I tell him what God said? We have a plan. And, Jenny? What is she going to think when I tell her that God is calling us to move to a new city and start a church in a place we know nothing about?

We were both so comfortable with our current circumstance. I don’t know who I was more apprehensive about talking to—Dad or Jenny! For that matter, what would everyone think?

The next day I broached the subject with my father. Hey, Dad, I’ve been thinking. I would really like to go out to Rockmart and start holding some meetings during the week and begin to reach out to that area. I can take the band, do some stuff at the high school and maybe rent someplace to hold some meetings.

My jaw dropped at his reply: "Son, I really think you should start a church in that area. I was sitting on my couch the other day and the Lord spoke to me about you. I know this isn’t
