    Millions and millions of domain names have been registered since the inception of the commercial Internet.

    The official number of active domains (versus inactive), of course, changes every day with new registrations being initiated and expiring domain names falling out of digital view. In general, however, that data point (the total number of actively registered domains) has remained relatively steady over the past few years, but it is not exactly trending upwards.
