Emily got out of the taxi, in Prenzlauer Berg the nightclub capital of Berlin. She was excited. After weeks of hard work the contract was finished. To celebrate she had been invited out by the girls at the office. Emily was 29, a graduate of Sydney University of Technology and a gifted programmer. Her reputation at uni for coming up with unique and cleaver coding bought her the recognition of the University. But in a dog eat dog world the young graduate needed to cement her reputation as world class. After finishing her doctorate she was approached by a multinational company. They offered her a contract working on a revolutionary computer system in Berlin. It was exactly what Emily was looking for. Weeks of hard work drove her to the breaking point. Her bosses wern’t bad people but they were pushing for perfection. Finally the break though was made.
The job was now finished it was time to let her hair down. She entered the club with the girls. Her mind was overwhelmed with bliss from the hypnotic dance music. They all headed to the dance floor losing themselves in the music. She danced in her black dress losing track of time. Finally a bump from another dancer shook her out of her trance. Sweat poured down her face. It was hot in here. Heading over to the bar she squashed into a hole hands up getting the attention of the bartender.
Vodka with orange thanks.
She ordered. While the bartender turned his back, Emily looked around the bar checking it out for eye candy. She eyed up the guy next to her. He was a tall, slim athletic build with brown hair. He wore a tan suit with a dark purple shirt. Not the greatest dress sense oh well can’t be picky
. She looked closer at the face. It was familiar in a way. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but for some reason high school came to her head. She remembered sitting next to a reclusive boy. They were science partners in year 9 in high school, could it be?
John, is that you?
She asked, tapping him
