About this ebook

Dark Hope is an easy-to-read poetry book about relationships, the darker side of which can be very seductive and/or powerful to experience. The poems have been inspired by my own relationships with the world, with the people around me and with myself. I look at these relationships from a Gothic viewpoint, merging light and dark imagery together. I hope that my poems will help others to find the strength they need in difficult times, if only through the knowledge that they are not alone. They are written in a style that makes them accessible to everyone, from all walks of life.

    Dedication

To the people who saved my life - my family and the Early Intervention Team.

    Foreword

This work is my juxtaposition, my happy grimoire, taking you through my experience. Importantly, people will understand that Gothic culture is not just about vampires, werewolves, gore and death; it is about mortality itself, who we are individually and our place in society. A reflective, invasive study of ourselves. We respect ourselves and society with a philosophical view that not everyone agrees with. We, mostly, are interested in paganism, herbology and Wicca, but not directly involved in them completely.

In the midst of life we are in death.

Burial of the Dead, Anthem, Book of Common Prayer

We suffer, but gain experience and bury our unhappiness, our pain. It can leave us in silence, but we need somehow to find a medium in which to express ourselves.

This work is about my relationship with the world, the people around me and myself. I hope it marks the end of a journey for me - a painful part of my life. I hope others find the strength they need in difficult times or feel they are not alone through reading my words.

Poetry is for finding words to express how you feel - for lovemaking, life celebration, death or a wonderful dedication. Explore.

    Spoiled clocks and artifices

Sinewy speckles of nuance in white-water eyes

In these rooms of shaded memories

We are felt in rebounded waves

    Stripped drapes discarded, defiled

Torn clothes and cushions meted out on sodden sails.

    Lifted from scrutiny

    Raised from vanity

    Taken by faith

    Held by trust.

    Spoiled clocks and artifices

Scuppered nightmares of rebellion in translucent eyes

In this room of captured actions

We were heard in rebounded waves

    Stirring cushions, discarded, besotted

Drawn curtains of modesty at the owner’s behest.

Given a name of the devoted
