About this ebook
I GROW YOUNG – 10 STEPS BACK TO YOUTH FORWARD presents a retrospective of my living habits in writing. Growing young is not about clock time, living longer, or aging skin, but rather about 'honing good habits' (HGH). The pressures of life and emotional loss can make someone jaded and stressed–and it is undeniable what happens internally will also show externally.
Nothing can stand without a foundation, so the 4 Fundamental Truths I share will provide you with that inner strength. Above it will be the very reason why growing younger is going to give you a more fulfilling lifestyle. Practice my 10 Tips to bring back that youthful essence that is your real age. Take it from me, a GILF, a Grandmother In Laughing Form.
I'm not a youthenizer, but I do age wiser, and this business book card has personal anecdotes which bought me time. Some of it ain't pretty, and a lot of it hurt a lot of times, and with anything that can reverse the aging process, like plastic surgery and the knife life, so have I endured a cutting rejuvenation with mine.

You attract what you mostly think of and say. I grow young
has been a mantra I've been using for as long as I can remember. In all honesty, it happened quite early on in life when people started saying that I looked too young to be a mother. I finally found an answer to give to them, but it is even before that which I want to address. I never believed in aging.
The concept of it was foreign to me, as I'd always heard things like Black don't crack
and The blacker the cherry, the sweeter the juice.
Well, you get where I’m going. I was convinced of these statements until I was among other black women who'd been with me throughout a weekend conference. On the third day, in one of the workshops, two black women who sat by my side got wind that I was a grandmother. Once again, I was faced with someone’s disbelief of me having two granddaughters, and I responded to their comment that I looked no more than twenty with, It’s because I’m black.
Both ladies, seated to either side of me, jumped up and said: No, it's absolutely not because of that.
They were positive that the secret to my youthfulness was caused by a different obvious trait or action, and they wanted to know the secret to retaining youth. My own family members say that it is quite incredible that I retard the aging process so well; so, with DNA out the window, I considered what outsiders say and do. More often than not, when people speak to me, they’ll either state that I am young, or that I look young. This is irrespective of the experiences that I’ve accumulated and the tales I’m able to spin when conversing.
What is even more amazing, during the very next meeting with the same people, they'll swear that I appear even younger. This has been the observation that has made me state with absolute certainty that I grow young.
Right off the top, I will state 4 Fundamental Truths upon which my 10 tips are erected upon.
Read for more than clarity, but for variety in your outlook. My preferred and suggested reading will always be a solid dose of philosophy. You will need it for life, comprehension, acceptance, patience, and benevolence. It’s a sure-fire way to stoicism. Now, if you can also do it in French, like I do, you’ll be ahead, or younger still. French is not the prerequisite as much as knowing another language is. When it comes to languages, the more lingos you learn, the more the leverage of longevity.
Laugh by yourself; so yes, that means solo-joke-poking,
which will crack the youth out of you. When adults are too busy to play, they send their children away to entertain themselves. This is not child abuse; it’s self-induced youth. We encourage our children to use the things around them to amuse themselves with. That’s why we are buying toys and all the gadgets that keep our kids employed in self-satisfying play. Now you try it for a day.
Write the original way with a pen and paper, then stick it in origami and slap a stamp on it. Then put the lot into a slot to be content as that’s the original sent.
In my creative writing workshops, the first exercises always involved free writing. We began with 10 minutes of longhand writing, followed by 10 minutes of phone-texting, ending with a final 10 minutes of computer keyboarding. These exercises are to writers what scales are to pianists. I emphasized that different parts of the brain are used when using different tools. A pen is different than your thumbs and different still from all your fingers and hands. Different parts of the brain are activated. The more you get accustomed to switching between the different mediums, the better you’ll be at readjusting when it’s time to change.
Trust in something greater than yourself (a higher, greater power that I call the Universe
), while trusting that that greater force wants you to be greater than yourself. It needs you just as much as you need it. I trust in the Universe and vibrate at a higher level. The Universe is an energetic influence that affects my body at the cellular level. I am positive that good things will come to me and bad things shouldn’t, so they don’t.
Some cultures have managed to keep ancient secrets comfortably held within their families, today I’ll share mine with you and break formalities.
