The Growth Perspective

About this ebook
The Growth Perspective is the mechanism that runs the lives of successful people. Those who are constantly swimming upstream are most often controlled by a more simple mechanism, one that was preprogrammed into our minds for our own good. Understanding what the Growth Perspective is all about and more importantly... how to engage this mechanism; is like flipping a mental switch that will take you from pure want to a life of balance and fulfillment.
There are a number of things you can program your mind to dwell upon. The programming that you choose has a direct correlation to the life that you live and the things you do. Most people seem to operate on a sort of default programming where they respond to life as they receive information. Some are successful as it is defined and others struggle endlessly.
The secret that men have sought after is actually much more tangible than we may have first believed. It is not a matter of will power; but where our willpower is directed. It is not a matter of desire; but how our desires are aligned. It is not a matter concerned with cosmic forces; but how we fit into the cosmic ourselves. The Growth Perspective is the practical application of all of this and more.

Chapter One:
NEEDS
There are some basic needs that are required for the sustainment of our lives. We learned about these in grade school but it is quite easy for us to neglect them as we go on our way. There really seem to be only a few basic categories of need; food, water, oxygen, shelter, survival, and companionship or love.
The first of these is pretty obvious. If you do not eat you will die. If you do not drink water you will die sooner. If you do not have oxygen you will be dead before you finish this book… maybe the chapter. Many times people neglect this in a more subtle way eating unhealthy foods, drinking everything besides water, and replacing the oxygen with something that will slowly kill them.
Shelter is also pretty obvious. If you do not have a way to hide from the elements you will face certain death. In cold weather you will freeze and in hot weather you will cook… it’s pretty straight forward really. Usually we could get by with a lean to and some blankets… perhaps a fire… but we have come to desire much more warmth and comfort than that.
I choose to consider survival as a separate need because it not only relates to food, water, oxygen, and shelter; but also to situations. If you find yourself in danger of death in any form you have plugged into a need. This can be related to situations or even long term health. Although in the later it is harder for our mind to know how to deal with long term scenarios.
The most controversial need is companionship or love. Some will argue that it is unnecessary for our survival but I do not agree. Mental and spiritual survival is important to our continued well being. If we lack love or even simple companionship our minds begin to disconnect with humanity completely. When this happens you can see deep psychological problems set in that make the person’s existence pretty difficult. I will say that the mind can compensate in times of need with memories and the imagination but this proves my point… it would not go to such an extent if there was not some necessary reason to our life and well being.
Often our needs somehow fall into the category of wants and desires while the things we want become the forefront of our mind. I want to eat… I want a glass of water… I want a blanket.
You have so much that you are now able to address your needs from a position of want and so your mind is confused. In the same way the things you are calling needs are probably not needs at all, I need a better car… I need new shoes… I need a different job.
Your mind has no choice here but to operate under the programming parameters you have given it.
What happens here is that your mind becomes lazy about the things you actually need. You will not drink enough water, you will not have good eating habits, and your most important relationships will be neglected. The result of this occurring is bad health and psychological struggles. You will not understand why you are frustrated, angry, or depressed;
