Monday Monday - Betty J. McClain Love
ISBN:9781483516349
On Monday, I got up and began to walk towards the bathroom and as I did, the feeling of happiness filled my heart as I began to think about him. Moreover, you would think that Monday for me would be hectic and mumbo jumbo and everything all tossed around. Oh no not this Monday not this beginning of the week for me today not so. This is the day I begin a new day this is the beginning of a new life.
On any given Friday, you could find me at the library catching up my research and history of music. I am a music teacher at Jacob town Elementary School where I am a substitute teacher for the Goodenburg County school district. I have been a substitute teaching for 5 years now and I started right out of college simply because the teacher who was teaching at the time was to be married and had no plans of returning to her teacher position at the school. I thought to myself what luck and of course, I was happy for the teacher but happy for me as well because I was finally on my way. You know what why do not I start at the beginning and we can catch up later Huh! How does that sound.
So grab yourself a big glass of ice tea some cheese crackers and don’t forget your favorite reading chair and join me for an afternoon of reminisce, okay let’s go
.
Elle are you getting up this morning, your breakfast is getting cold. Hot breakfast is called hot breakfast because of the steam coming from it, Elle’s mom yelled up the stairs.
Girl if you don’t get down the stairs I am going to eat your breakfast myself, Elle’s mom was quite the teaser.
Elle is a second year college student and at the top of her class for the year and with being at the top of her class, she is also the singer in line for top prize at this year’s talent show.
Oh shoot! What time is it?’ Elle tosses back the sheets as she tumbles out of bed
Mom I am coming I am sorry. I must have over slept I am coming mom sorry, sorry. As she reaches for her glasses on her bedside table of course, she tumbles right onto the floor.
I’m alright, coming mom right now.
Oh no I gotta wash up, I’m coming mom." Moreover, she runs into the bathroom to wash and get ready for her day. In the bathroom, she takes the hair band out of her hair and as she does her beautiful long, red locks of hair tumble down onto her shoulders.
Her hair seems to tousle right on to her shoulders and roll softly down to the nape of her neck. Her beautiful hair seemed to fill her shoulders with an effortless roll of red glossy soft glands of hair. She takes her brush from the bathroom closet and begins to brush her hair starting from the nape of her neck. She strokes upward with the brush firmly in her hand takes soft complete strokes.
From the nape of her neck she brings the brush up, out, up, and out all the way to the end of a hand full of strands. She takes hands full of hair one bunch at a time and with each stroke, she begins again the process taking a firm grip of the brush.
She bends over and as she does her hair flows over her head like a glossy thick red blanket. As her hair tussles down below her shoulders and each curl seems to give way to the light breeze blowing through the window of her bathroom. The curtains even seem to blow a sweet hello to this fair-skinned young woman as she prepares for her day.
There is a light aroma of coffee swirling from the kitchen to the bathroom and passed the nose of Elle. Who wants to miss any of momma's breakfast, not me. Man I got to get a move on it if I am to get to that breakfast before my brothers.
Elle
her mother gives a shout out and Elle scrambles to put away her things.
She rushes over to the sink and turns the hot water handle and the cold-water handle and the water begins to flow from the sprocket filling the sink. Elle takes her face towel from the rack on the wall and begins to wet it under the water. Oh my how refreshing
she says as she begins to wet her face with her towel. After wetting her face, she takes the soap from the soap dish and PLOP
right onto the floor it goes. Are you kidding me
and she has to bend down to pick up her bar of soap and as she does revealed are her long legs. Her legs seemed to be as two very strong bronze poles smoothed over with silk and smooth to the touch.
As she rises from picking up her soap her, she notices a figure at the door of her bathroom. It was her mother And what is going on in here young lady don't you know your breakfast is getting cold.
Mom I am really trying to get ready, I kinda' over slept.
Her mother smiled a huge smile I am so very proud of you Elle and I know if your father was still alive. God rest his soul, he would to.
Well mama it's really nothing to brag about it was just a karaoke contest it was no big deal.
Well I am still very proud of you because even though some people were being rude you just kept on singing, baby and for that I am proud. I guess your father and I did something right. Well let's go and eat I am starving.
Mom I don't have my clothes on yet,
says Elle. Well its Friday and tomorrow you have choir rehearsal. One of your brothers can drive you to school. Oh, Elle I cannot wait until the day when you attend college and go on to be a teacher like the one you were dreaming. I know you will make a fine teacher, but it is going to be some hard work for you girl, but you can do it. So come on and let’s eat, your brother Have already left for work so he won't be the one driven' you.
Elle Erin Cameron has four older brothers and one younger brother, the oldest Gabriel Alex, Andrew Matthew, Nicholas Cole, Kevin Bryant, and the youngest Hunter Sebastian. Mom Mrs. Samantha Riley Cameron the widow of Harry Tommy Lee Cameron the wholesale warehouse owner of one of the biggest stores in town. They met on a chance meeting in the warehouse Harry owned and with precise planning Harry romanced his way in to the heart of shy Samantha. In addition, the rest is history as they say.
In the kitchen all, the brothers are seated at the breakfast table with mom and Elle. Hey ma are we gonna be at the show this weekend, everyone in town is talkin' about it. Elle it looks as though you gonna have your work cut out for you. Some of the best voices in town are gonna' be there. I hear tell Ms. Teresa Gear is comin' into town just to enter the contest since they stretched the contest to outsiders
, says Hunter.
I think it's a shame we have enough talent right here in town what in the world do we need some stankin' outsiders comin' in here with their ruining things and throwing in their two cents
, says Andrew. Andrew is a bit of a hot head when it comes to his town where he was born and raised. Andrew is just as handsome as he is smart. He is the one who will put you under a microscope and measure you out. He is just a little mistrusting in people since his dad passed away.
Well Mr. Smarty Pants if you would just get out a little more and meet people you could know that there is a lot of talent out there and not just here in town. There are some really nice people out there and everyone is not out to get us, says Elle. Mom says,
Okay, okay let's just cut the chatter and let's just eat shall we. Hunter would you please be so kind as to drive your sister to school this morning, Gabe had to be at work a little earlier today. The boss is looking to give about some over time and your brother is trying to grab some more time this week so Gabe is thinking the early worm gets the time. I hope he is right, I think he is trying to save up for that house he saw over on Grant overlook street. I think all he needs for the rest of a down payment is $5,000.00 and he is almost there. That apartment he stays in he is out growing and he wants to get a roommate to help with the mortgage. Personally, that is not a bad idea, he planning to ask Jamie Lee to marry him and he is getting things together. I am pretty sure she will except and say yes and I will be a proud grandma' when they have children. Oh goodness I cannot wait I have been looking at that basinet at Ricco's department store all year. I have got to have it for my first grandchild, it is beautiful."
Mom he has not proposed yet and wouldn't she have to say yes first
, says Elle. Oh Elle you just don't want to share your brother, your brother has spoiled you so since your dad died. Don't worry there will be enough of him to go around
. In addition, Elle sits at the table pouting and her brother Andrew begins to tease her. Andrew get going so you’re not late for work
, says mom So let's get to moving.
"I just got to get my keys and driver’s license and we are on the way. Hey Elle what do you plan on singing for the talent show. I hear the prize this year is $1,000.00 and 4 tickets to the big lodge over in Keg County.
I can see us now you, whoever, me, and my dream girl Faye. Man guys would be so envious of me. That big lodge and me and fine Faye whoooooooo, whooooooo I can hardly wait.
I heard they have an indoor pool shaped like a heart and I got just the swimsuit I been looking at for Faye. Sis you gotta win this one. I would have to work like a slave just to get one room let alone four tickets. Whooo, Whooooooooooo you gotta help a brother out for real."
The only ticket you are gonna see is the parking ticket you were supposed to pay two weeks ago.
Mom says what ticket, which has a ticket.
I
Shut up Elle.
Look you two get moving,
says mom.
A car pulls up to the Rigeer Hotel and stops; the valet walks to the passenger side of the car and opens the door. He extends his hand and a lady reaches out to take his hand and out steps a beautiful pair of legs followed by and physique that is more beautiful. Ms. Teresa Gear steps out of the car Wow Ms. Gear how are you? Man it has been many, many year’s ma'am how are you?'
Hello Frank actually I have been okay, how about yourself kid, you have been here for a while haven't you. I remember when you would skate board pass this place and scare the hell out of me. So tell me do you still skate board?"
"Not really and if I do it's only because I want to scare the hell out of my oldest sister instead of customers. I own my own ride now so I do not skate board as much but I did teach my son, he is 4years old and he gets a kick out of it. His mom hates it though she is a worrywart of a sort. I tell her not to worry and I hold on to him very tight.
But anyway, I know my mom is gonna flip when I tell her you are here in town. So you really are gonna enter the talent show, from what I see you don't need to do that."
Well I am not really supposed to reveal why I am here but if it helps. I am here for a really great reason and I hope to hopefully do some looking around town but you will find out later, okay.
Frank says, Well I had better get back to work ma'am it is really a pleasure to serve you Ms. Gear.
Bye Frank see ya around dear.
Frank and the other attendant remove Ms. Gears luggage from her car and they load the valet cart and Frank take the luggage up to Ms. Gear’s room. Other cars are pulling up the
