Poetic Ray
Rachel spent most of her youth in South Carolina, but it was in Georgia where she found her pen. She began writing regularly at the age of 17. She later earned the name Poetic Ray. Venturing into spoken word, Poetic Ray performed on Atlanta's own radio station V-103 three years in a row, and she graced the mic at several spoken word venues: Apache Cafe, Mocha Match, Vibes Nightclub, etc. Her first book of poems was self published through blurb.com, followed by 4 others and 2 novelettes titled Consequences and Repercussions. She is working on several novels: one, the completion the first two! Poetic Ray is also a writer of stage plays and songs, and she plans to produce a spoken word cd in the future. She earned her BA in English in 2014.

Chapter 1:
RAyGE
‘He told me that what I’m feeling, I did it to myself
That he could only do what I allowed
And I shouldn’t let anyone disrespect me or make me lower my standards
So after the initial shock and the dagger pain in my heart
I proceeded to raise my standards…leaving him right beneath the radar
Of being good enough for me’
Untitled (Love You)
The threshold of amity
Has become the footstool for enmity
Between masculinity and femininity
There lies no unity
Because you’re steady teaching us lessons on how to NOT love YOU
How dare you ask why we DON'T love YOU
You failed to see the strength in our tears
..said it only showcased weakness and fear..
(We be crying for YOU.. something that you ain’t strong enough to do)
Said our standards weren’t sustainable
.. and that our reaching for the stars was simply unattainable..
(Which means there’ll be no expecting anything from YOU.. guess we gotta just take anything from you)
You theorized about the fault in our sensitivity
..had us questioning the nature of our connectivity..
(It’s no wonder why I can't 'feel' YOU.. impossible to fulfill you)
You spoke down to us condescendingly
..the ‘girl’ in she, you condemned in we..
(The one thing that should appeal to the boy in YOU.. maybe the man in you is confused)
The threshold of amity
Has become the footstool for enmity
Between masculinity and femininity
There lies no unity
It’s said that women nurture and men provide
But women are giving while men divide
Where’s your protection, where’s your respect
It’s like you’re forcing us to forget
That we love you
You’re teaching us how to not love you
All we’ve ever wanted to do was love you
Not Even
Not even extra cheese in those eggs
And those thick toasted legs
Could satiate a soul that ain’t never been fed
Nothing but empty expectations and unfulfilled promises…
Not even a ball and chain
Attached to his thang
Could change the direction it wants to swang
Girrrl the rope it hangs from is firmly attached to pain…
So pain it begets…
Not even the bright on his face
Radiating from your inner space
Will take him from that darkened place
So you might as well keep yo sunshine.. (chuckle) You gon’ need it…
Not even the moan in your sexy pleas
On a rainy night down on your knees
Could cure his lustful disease
Abscessing your access.. Impregnating you with his stress, his mess…
Not even yo cornbread, not yo meat
Nor the conquering of your feat
Could cure his defeat
Honey chile please.. This battle is intricately weaved to deceive…
Not even yo teach could erase what’s been taught
Your contribution won’t equal what’s been bought
The valuables lost when he fought
And I don’t mean tangibles.. He’s missing something else…
Not yo bent back
Or yo protruding rack
Or the daunting task
Of
