What is the measure of a man?
What makes him stand out?
It’s not possessions or status
Many genuine men have done without
How does he spend his time?
What comes from his mouth?
Choosing which ladder to climb
Speaks volumes
Throwing down the cynical façade
Embracing his faults and qualities
Admission of oversights
And to accept his own disparity
To take his past and use it for benefit
Dulling the pangs of remorse
Reaching for the honesty to fully admit
To claim ownership that he is the source
Regret for past actions
Ties a weight to the soul
It’s feckless and kills life’s passion
It’s sorrow and not you in control
Sewing up loose ends
Begins with forgiveness of self
Slow down to relax and unbend
While in turn working to stretch yourself
Mercy returns to where it was granted
Washing the conscience of remorse
Live and thrive where planted
A certain tour de force
Ally
The profound hides in the simple
Ingenuous acceptance
This the unfortunate rarity
While the attenuation of candor pervades
Allegiances shift like the sand
What sometimes seems solid is not
I’ll count on things not going as planned
I’ll take respite in my capacity
Garrison gives pause to unbend and refresh
Exhume the barren and lay them to rest
Paths that are crossed do not distract
Acceptance opens the intellect to confide
Digging deep, stretching, scratching
Expose, rise above and become
Something better, opening new chapters
Yet still acquainted with limits
Not playing a role, peerless
Anchored to nothing, no veil to doff
Seamless exchange
Chosen and directed naïveté
Candor grants freedom
Freedom breeds thought
Thought feeds the inside
What’s free becomes priceless
Ascend
Let it go, put it down, ascend to higher ground
Interpretation on what I haven’t found
Wasting my time nothing will
