      Don’t Get Out Of Bed!

      Are you sure you don’t want popcorn?!

      We’re fine mom! I yelled out, before slamming my bedroom door closed and locking it.

      I wasn’t trying to hurt my mom’s feelings, but this was the most important sleepover I would

      probably ever have during my entire high school career. I’d been waiting weeks to find out if

      I made the cheerleading squad, and Monday had originally changed my life forever. Not only

      had I made the squad, but the top five girls on the team had asked me if they could come

      sleep over at my house for the induction celebration. I couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear

      as I looked at them now, only a tinge of guilt fluttering through my stomach as my eyes

      landed on the old wooden box that was sticking out from under my bed.

      My best friend, Cassidy had left it here over the weekend, and I’d promised to return it to her

      at school this past Monday, but I’d completely forgotten. My week had been filled with

      cheerleading practices, and plans with my new friends. I was no longer into playing witches,

      and warlocks, and I could feel the color flooding my cheeks as Amanda’s eyes landed on it.

      What’s that? She asked, her nose curling in disgust at the old black rabbit’s foot that hung

      over the edge of the box.

      It’s nothing! My little brother is always leaving his stuff in here, I replied hastily, giving

      the box a kick with my foot as I sat down.

      My little brother’s the same way, Piper chimed in, her blonde curls bouncing on top of her

      head as she pulled out six purple folders from the cheerleading bag she’d brought with her.

      I took mine with a smile, letting my fingers run over the gold star stickers that had been

      arranged across the front to spell my name. Last year, I would have never dreamed that this

      could be me. Cassidy and I had been resigned to the fact that we were part of the freak

      category in school. In the valley, not very many teens were into the Goth look, and the fact

      that I also was in drama, killed any prospect of me ever hanging with any of the popular kids.

      I never dreamed that a summer away at gymnastics camp -my mom’s idea of keeping me fit

      and healthy- would land me in good graces with Amanda Herring, the most popular girl in

      school.

      I’d taught her how to do a double rounded tuck, full back handspring, and in turn she’d given

      me a makeover. When school started back in August, not only was I the talk of the school,

      but the other cheerleaders had befriended me as well. I could tell that Cassidy was jealous of

      my newfound friends, but I was still trying to make an effort to hang out with
