He served his author apprenticeship as a student at Newcastle University, where, to finance his postgraduate research, he wrote thirty-three steamy romances under a pseudonym. Gabriel is the author of several historical novels, including the bestsellers The Seventh Moon, The Original Sin and the Redcliffe Sisters series, Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye and Take Me To Your Heart Again. Born in South Africa, he has lived and worked in many countries, and now divides his time between London and Cairo. He has three grown-up children.

      Second book I have read from this author thoroughly enjoyed both… Very well written, great story telling and narration!

      Beautifully written and beautifully read. a fascinating historic fiction. Loved it even though the subject matter can be /is very painful

      This story involves Igor Stravinsky, Nazi submarines, the Kennedy family, Jewish girls and I don't know what all else. Everyone (except the submarine) on the same ocean liner headed to America from France. Possibly the last ship to be able to leave France with freedom. At first I wondered where the author was going with all that. The story went nowhere slowly. The characters were not appealing, the "history" far-fetched. I didn't finish reading it because I began to be nauseated by all the characters, except maybe Stravinsky and the boy. Your mileage may vary, so don't take my word for it.

      Historical fiction (so called) about an ocean liner leaving Europe as World War II is about to begin with a passenger list that includes the composer Shostakovich, the conductor Arturo Tosconinni. Rose Kennedy and several of her children and assorted Jewish refugees escaping the Nazis at the last minuteThe plot is preposterous. The kind of audio book that puts listeners to sleep. Don't waste your time

      I was sucked right into this book from the very beginning. It included such a great cast of characters with great scenes. I really felt like I was riding on that boat and that the people were real.The name dropping was off the charts in this book. From a composer to a conductor to a child wanna be actress and even a future president's family. It had everything: romance, adventure, action, all set during a world war voyage across the Atlantic. The mutiny on the German sub was especially tense. For me, the author did a great job making the characters and the story come to life.Thanks to Lake Union Publishing and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
