      It's surprising that more hasn't been written about developments over the last 20 years in Turkey, specifically, about Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The nation, with 85 million people, is the 17th largest economy in the world, and politically central in a highly divisive neighborhood. This book steps up to the plate: the author reported for the Times of London for many years, and has a deep knowledge and understanding of the country. She is balanced on a subject that tends to evoke strong passions one way or another, and she illustrates her story with vivid descriptions of interviews with ordinary Turks. Well worth reading.

      The book may be good, but the reader has a mixture of a lisp and lack of articulation that just make it unbearable to listen through.
