The islands of Orkney can be found to the north of Scotland. Their rocky shores are battered by storms that sweep down from the Arctic.
Because they lie far to the north, the summer days in the Orkneys are long – but in winter, the nights are icy-cold and seem to last forever. Only the toughest and most courageous people can survive there!
Many hundreds of years ago, the Orkneys were inhabited by fierce peoples called the Scots and the Picts. They fought each other for the best farmland and stole each other’s sheep and cattle.
